Excellence in Gualdo TadinoWe had heard that this was a great place to eat and were not disappointed. We walked into a beautifully contemporary restaurant which is a pleasant contrast to the local medieval structures. My first dish was homemade tagliatelle with fresh fava beans and sausage. It was unbelievably fresh and simple. My husband had cannelloni with a wonderful tomato sauce that was light and not heavy. The serve was warm and not overbearing. We will be back for more!

Great food while immersed in an atmospheric historical centre at a close distance to impressive hiking trailsWe stopped by chance in Gualdo Tadino on our way to the Adriatic Sea, and we found ourselves in the beautiful central square of this charming little town, whose stunning mountain hiking trails convinced us to spend a couple of days more: the sea could wait. While exploring the surrounding of the main cathedral we ended up in a small alleyway where the GG8 restaurant is located. The menu looked interesting, the position perfect and we were quire hungry, so we decided for a stop-over. It was a good choice. Inside, the environment is strangely modern, creating a surprising contrast with the outside, one which we found rather pleasant. After a well-assorted traditional antipasto (the truffle frittata was particularly good), we had sfogliatelle rosa, a hand-made pasta with a peas and mushroom on a pink sauce that, they told us, is made out of a receipt that is kept secret since generations by the Gigiotto (of which GG8 is the acronym) family. They were amazing and extremely original. Among the various ingredients, there was a peculiar flavour we couldnt quite guess. The secret will remain, for the moment. The second course was a mountain lamb (allo scottadito), which was roasted to perfection, really impressive, and an Angus fillet, which was just as good as an Angus fillet should be. All was served with a good and robust Sicilian red, of which I cant remember the name. We ended with a custard cream dessert to share (not sure about the name, again my memory faults here) which, if it wasnt for the amount of food we already ingurgitated, we would have been more than happy to have twice. The atmosphere was quiet and the service very relaxed and professional. The restaurant has also rooms to stay in, which is a truly perfect location for visiting the city and a strategic base for the surrounding mountains. After two espressos, we headed straight to the imposing castle that dominates the town, which we reached in no more than 10 minutes of a steep climb through typical alleys. From there the view is great, and if you keep walking towards the mountain top it only gets better. Well definitively come back

wonderful staff in a great hotelThis is a small, boutique hotel. It's what you would expect (or hope for) in a quaint little Italian village like Gualdo Tadino. We were there for the festival of the four gates, which occurs in late September every year. Despite all of the partying and noise and craziness, the hotel was fairly quiet, and the managers were fantastic. Their food was excellent, the room was very comfortable and I would absolutely go back again and again. It is a stone's throw from the town square.
