Worthy of repeat visitsWe've stayed at Gateside Guesthouse more than once, in the Treetops unit. Very comfortable and clean, well equipped for self-catering, beautiful garden, beautiful views, exceptional breakfast, helpful staff, value for money.

Disappointing GemWe booked up 3 of the self catering units as well as a room in the house. This really is a stunning B&B with tons of potential. Whilst there is a but coming into this review i would still say worth the visit as I believe the owners will sort out the challenges. Now the but - But the units we occupied my family being in the 3 bedroom house and another being in a 4 bed open plan unit both need some TLC from a maintenance point of view. In our unit we had leaking pipes - water coming from the shower throughout the ceiling which the owners were continuously trying to fix whilst we were there - not convenient to us at all, fridge not working properly, braai that was bent and needing replacment and then some cleanliness issues which again credit to the owner were addressed however at our inconvenience. The open plan self catering unit really needs a flooring upgrade to brighten it up again and basic maintenance like the 2plate stove that cant switch on and off. I end off by again saying we were there for 7 nights and we would probably stay here again provided the little things were fixed up, the owner was very apologetic and is not the manager as there are employees running the B&B. My advice to all B&B owners check into your own rooms once every couple of months for a night and experience what you want your guests to pay for. Again I believe the owners will address the problem then well worth the visit.

Over night stopWe were looking for an overnight stop and it was ideal. it had all the necessary amenities, comfortable large bed, en-suite, excellent wifi, pool, nice views and limited breakfast which we found a bit pricey at R110.00 per person We did however have issues with not having sufficient hot water.

Beautiful settingI stopped over for one night on a business trip. Based on the reviews on this forum I had reduced my expectations to a guesthouse that was worn and needed updating. Instead, when I got there I was greeted warmly by Penny and led to a room (West Room) with a gorgeous view and beautifully furnished. The heater in the room and electric blanket were much appreciated on a very chilly winter evening. The little kkitchenne was well equipped (with microwave, no stove) and suited my needs perfectly. There are also several lovely restaurants just around the corner. In the morning I was served a hearty English breakfast in a heated outside room overlooking the gorgeous view. Gateside was a great choice for travelling solo on a business trip, but I also look forward to going back with my family in holiday some time.

Sleep ONLY Guesthouse !We must have stayed in the worst self-catering room , that they had .The only good thing was the big , comfortable double bed . The fridge was tiny , for self-catering , not much space to store food . The freezer , could only fit a small box of ice cream and the 4 dry ices , that we had . The sofa was horrendous .... cushions -thin and worn out and OLD . We could not sit on them , as we felt the sofa frame , from underneath . The place had a weird smell - stuffy , old dust . DSTV was rubbish ( the worse TV bouquet ever) .No BBC , no CNN . Channel 118 to 122 (missing) .All the 170's channels (missing). No Discovery channels. We could hear ALL our neighbours (next door and upstairs ).The first night we could not sleep ,with noise from upstairs ( steps and voices). The cherry on the top .... There were 5 parking bays , for 9 chalets(Rooms) . How do you explain this ??? So every night when we returned ,we had NO space to park our car . Overall , the room was in need of a good( urgent ) upgrading . Will NOT NOT ,stay there again . A 3STAR Guesthouse , that only deserves to be a 1STAR .
