Great winter low season stayWe spent a lovely skiing week in this guesthouse in March. Location of the house is just great! About 3 minutes walk to the Planai West lift, 5 minutes to the nearest supermarket - closes at 7 pm on weekdays, 6 pm on Saturday, the same time to a gas station which is open longer, if not 24/7. About 7 minutes to the lovely small city center. Schladming is about 20 minutes car drive from the Dachstein glacier (or 45 by ski bus) - I would recommend visiting on a clear day for views, your Ski Amade skipass is valid there. We got two double bed rooms with a common balcony facing the mountains - lovely views on sunny days! The rooms were adequately spaced (however one of the rooms felt a little smaller than the other), each one with a big enough wardrobe and an en suite bathroom. The rooms were spotless clean, maintained daily. The bathroom was ok and had a functional hair dryer, the shower cubicle was normally sized (did not feel small to us, as mentioned in another review). There is a soap/shampoo stack (empty during our stay:) ). The towels are changed once a week. There is no refridgerator, nor a kettle in the room. The bed is sooo comfortable! Not too hard, not too soft, just perfect. The wifi was fast and reliable during our stay. There were only a few other skiers in the house, therefore we always found a place on the boot dryer in the ski room. We went on a half board basis. The breakfast included some ham and cheese selection, pate, marmelade, honey, cereals and an egg dish - something between scrumbled eggs and omelette. It was repetitive, but you could choose a different breakfast every day (if you did not eat everything at once:) ). It would be great to put a small trashbin on each table, and some extra clean cups, if someone likes to drink tea and coffee at the same time. I have to say that I was afraid of dinners, being picky and knowing there was no choice, but I was pleasantly surprised! There is a soup - mostly a broth of different types - with fritates, knodels, vegetables, crisps.... followed by a main course of a local receipe - a piece of meat cooked in different ways with a side dish, and a desert. It was good, I can imagine that the locals eat the same meals in their homes. All staff was polite and always helpful.

Welcoming and comfortable.Take no notice of the earlier jaundiced reviews from one group, this is a nice place to stay. Four of us were here for Christmas week. We booked late - attracted by the excellent offer price through Crystal. It's unequivocally 3 star so the Zum Kaiserweg lacks the facilities you'd get in a more expensive Austrian ski hotel. There's no spa but the excellent public pool/spa is a good alternative. There's not much choice of menu (none for most courses at dinner) but the food is good and is pleasantly served, and in daylight there's a fantastic view from the restaurant of the sun-lit mountains opposite. There was not much of a view from our balcony but the room was clean, warm and comfortable. It's not ski-in ski-out but it's a very short walk to the nearby Hochwurzen lifts and a quick ski-bus ride to the Planai lift. The boot-room is rather pokey but who cares? We found all the staff pleasant, welcoming and accommodating. It was especially pleasing to find that the wine list had plenty of choice for well under 20 euros a bottle and that tap-water was available by the carafe (both unusual in Austria). We had very good skiing and snowboarding conditions for 5 of the six days, marred only by the inexplicable ski-bus timetable from Rohrmoos back down into Schladming. There are no buses from lunch until late afternoon and this was a problem for the one beginner in our group, as the chairlift allows constant access up the mountain to the beginner slopes but not back down again. That doesn't matter if you are reasonably proficient on snow, but for her it meant a choice between too short or too long a day on the slopes or a long trek on foot down the road back to the valley. But that's not a reflection on the hotel. We would happily return.

Skiing with the old ladsSecond visit to the hotel with five mates who ski every year, with says it all. Been to better, but this place ticks all the boxes. Close to the lifts and only a short walk from the centre of town. Hotel could be described as basic, but more than sufficient. Clean and tidy, with friendly staff. Although no choice of main meal at dinner, the quality is good. Bar is quiet, but does a good toastie if asked for. Would recommend.

Quiet, clean and friendlyB&B here whilst on a Crystal ski trip with friends. Beautifully clean room. Generous breakfast. Friendly but unobtrusive host. Skiroom. 5 minutes walk in ski boots to the nearest lift. 10 minutes walk to small bus station for ski bus to the Dachstein. Ready to walk into town for evening meals. A convenient and quiet location. Highly recommended

Excellent hotel for a great ski holidayWe stayed in the hotel during peak February half term and had a wonderful holiday. Me, my wife and son aged 15. Our room was excellent, big enough for the 3 beds and plenty of room to move around. Bathroom was really good. We were on the second floor so had to run the hot tap for a minute or two to get lots of hot water. The ski lifts are literally 2 mins walk. Here there is a bar, ski hire shop and gondola to Planai or chair lift upto Rohrmos. There is also a room with lots of ski lockers which have boot heaters. These are 1 Euro each time you open them, so twice a day (morning and afternoon). So for 11 Euros for a 6 day ski, its a no brainer to leave your skis and boots there. Put them on and there is an escalator up to the ski lifts. Raymond is brilliant and very helpful. The breakfast is excellent and lots of eat and drink from the buffet. We ate at night once and this was very good too. Raymond runs the bar and has everything you need. A couple of drinks when you get back to chill out is just the job. The town with lots of bars and restaurants is 5 maybe 10 mins walk. Its a great base for an excellent ski holiday and reasonably priced.
