Good location very run downStayed here for a week in February with my daughter. The rooms are small and look very dated. !970's or 80's. The shower was only seperated by a curtain from the bottom of my daughters bed and the "twin" had the beds in an LK shape. We only had breakfast here which was ok. The main complaint is the horrible room. Location is good but not worth putiting up with the rooms. We booked through Crystal skiing and I was suprised they used this hotel until I tried to get some customer service from them..shocking.., we met the Crystal resort reps for the first time on the day we left.

Good value for money hotelOur party of 6 stayed at this hotel in February. Our rooms were basic but clean and warm, with good shower/bath. We all enjoyed the food and there was plenty of options at breakfast so there was no need to go hungry. Evening meals were adequate and our only slight criticism was that the seasoning (salt) was a little more than some of party was use too but that is only because we do not use salt in our cooking at home! The hotel also accommodated our vegetarian member to the best of their abilities. It has its own boot and ski room in the cellar with a fully heated boot rack (very welcome) and is very close to the ski lift, we were even able to ski down close to it. The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful. All in all it was a very pleasant economical stay and would be happy to go back again. This is not a 4 star hotel, it is a guesthouse (with a lift) so if you want swimming pools and other perceived holiday luxuries then pay more somewhere else. However if you want to ski, have warm clean accommodation, with hot water and pleasant food that doesn't cost the earth then this is the place for you.

Good for very little moneyWe stopped in Rauris on our way down to Slowenia an Croatia. It is amazing what the owners of this hotel offer to their guests for such a low price. The rooms are rather small but perfectly adaquat. You dive into the 70ies. We had a nice balcony overlooking the mountains. Since we shared the hotel with two bus loads of folk music groups from Ukrainia and Letvia the breakfast buffet was rather hectic, so was the evening meal. For the little money the owners charged for an overnight stay with breakfast and dinner they produced a decent nosh, which was, of course, nothing to write home about, but was better than expected. For us it was the first time we booked a low-budget hotel, but enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, admired the hard working owners and their skill to feed so many people in such a positive way. We were seated with a nice couple we enjoyed talking to and this reflects the family run feeling this hotel manages to reflect. We are perhaps not likely to stay at the Alpenrose again, but can suggest a stay at the Alpenrose for anyone who travels on a low budget. You get a basic, but friendly and well run accomodation.

Good value - plenty of food - delightful hosts - near the ski lift.As other reviewers have said - if you want pools and luxury, then you need to go elsewhere. But we had everything we needed - comfortable bed - clean bathroom - plenty of food - nice helpful staff - short distance from both town centre and the ski lift. Breakfast was the usual buffet style - cheese and cold meats. Also boiled eggs if wanted. Brown bread and/or white rolls. Juice, tea, coffee. Dinner was 3 course - and we had to ask for smaller portions as we could not manage the quantities they served! But then we were walking, not skiing all day. I agree with some other reviewers about the salt levels, but that is so subjective that for some it may not be an issue. But the food was tasty and freshly cooked. Reminder to those not in the know - Austrian 'double' beds are usually twins pushed together. And they have separate duvets! We always take a kingsize sheet to put under the duvets to stop the draught.... Value for money - superb. We paid £779 for two people, half-board for the week, including flights. We would certainly return to this little hotel.

Friendly, cosy and traditional Austrian hotelLovely Austrian Hotel. Rooms were small but cosy. Very friendly and welcoming, it is family run but we found all the staff to be very friendly from the waiters to the cleaners. The food is basic but filling ideal for when you've been skiing all day. Breakfast is buffet, mostly cold meats and cheeses but you can have a boiled egg and make toast if you prefer something hot. Good buffet salad each day with evening meal. My son turned 21 while we were away so had mentioned it to Petra the owner, who, when we came down to dinner had decorated our table. Such a nice gesture especailly when the hotel was busy. Hotel is close to everything, shops, supermarket and slopes. Had a reallly special week in Rauris will not be forgotten.
