    Middling.......

We stayed at the Hotel Gardenia for while on a Skiing holiday with Crystal Ski. The Hotel is well located and the shuttle bus (driven by Luca) is great, nice touch as we understand not all the local hotels do this. The spa is clearly new and modern. Its free to use, but you MUST rent a special towel..... the water temp could do with being turned up...after 20mins we had to get out as everyone was very cold. The bedroom was, unfortunately, dated and small. Too small for three of us. The windows started at ground level and stopped at waist height. There was a lovely view of the surrounding mountains, when you got on your knees to see out. No double bed, its just two singles next to each other...and they were not particularly comfortable!!! We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was functional, but lacked any real finess. UHT milk, stale croissants and the cooked option was Scrambled eggs and luke warm hotdog sausages. The fruit juices were nice, and a choice of cereal (but I hope you like it with UHT!) we ended up buying fresh milk from the local shop, but without a fridge in your room it was hard to keep it fresh. Dinner. This was pre-ordered the night before from a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains. On some nights it was clear that the hotel/restaurant team had gone to a lot of trouble. The local evening was particularly nice, it was great to taste the local dishes and you certainly didnt leave hungry. Other evenings were very lack-lustre. On the whole, pasta was a safe option. We dont eat Veal or Vennison so opted to eat out those nights. (3 out of 7) Overall the hotel was clean and the staff friendly. Good location and some nice touches. The rooms need some work and the food really must improve if we were to return. Also 19:30 was just too late to wait for dinner after a long days skiing. A final lovely touch was the packed breakfast handed to us as we checked out at 05:30 on the day of departure. Thank you. Its just a shame Crystal wouldnt let you eat on the bus transfer. Some of their hotels open breakfast early for departing guests.

    Happy friendly welcoming hotel

We have just returned from a fabulous week at Hotel Gardenia. The welcome when we arrived was warm and friendly, the location for a ski holiday was perfect with the wonderful Luca on hand with the minibus to drop you off and pick you around the resort all day, meaning you could really make the best of the resort . The rooms were warm and cosy with very comfortable beds. The food was plentiful with a good variety every night. The buffet breakfast was very delicious and the staff were jolly and always helpful. The only (very slight) issue was not knowing before hand that you had to pay extra for robes and swimming hats if you wanted to use the sauna and swimming pool. If we had been made aware before hand we could have bought our own. Overall it was a wonderful week for the four english ladies!!

    Made better by fantastic snow.

We stayed over Christmas 2019 with Crystal Ski. We benefited from fantastic snow which made the holiday. If the snow had been poor I think we would have felt very short changed. The hotel is o.k. As other reviews have highlighted the SPA area is lovely. You do need to bring your own swim hats, towels and robes otherwise unless you are happy to pay extra for those. I think the service you receive is better if you are Italian, not English. Some rooms have been refurbished - ours was small and the decor was very dated with a small shower. Probably best to bring your own hairdryer too. The hotel smells of cigarette smoke - especially in the bar and the main foyer so we didn't really want to spend alot of time there with our children. The food was not of a great standard - apart from the pasta. We ate out three nights and really enjoyed the food at local restaurants. It is a 3* hotel so I wasn't expecting it to be amazing but it could have been a bit better for that level of hotel.

    Lovely stay

The new refurbished rooms are fantastic, the shower is so powerful and the rooms are really clean. The mini bus service to the slopes is brilliant and Luca is so friendly. The children enjoyed the games room and the spa is lovely. This is our second year and we hope to return next year!

Great value hotel with friendly staff

I stayed here in February 2020 half-term with my two teenage children. We shared a room which had twin beds and a single sofa bed, room was more than adequate, plenty of storage space, and it was kept clean with towel changes whenever needed. The shower was hot with a powerful rainfall head. A design fault with the sliding doors leaked water onto the floor but we blocked these with towels (plenty were always provided). Wifi was very weak in the room (we were top floor jn a corner), but kids ventured to reception area rooms/restaurant on occasion for a strong signal. A safe was provides in the room with a safe key free of charge...as was a key and padlock for the ski/boot room ski rack (though room always locked and cctv monitored). Boot heaters worked well, plenty of them, as well as benches/space to get ready. Luca provided a cheerful and helpful service dropping us to the slopes and back in the minibus whenever we wanted. The food at the restaurant was good, we stocked up in salad and vegetables at the buffet as the main meals didnt provide these. Starters and main meal choices were great, portion sizes adequate and dessert was well received by the kids, especially the cherry ice cream! One night we had a traditional 5 course meal which was excellent. Prices for drinks very reasonable and snacks provided free in the bar. All of the staff were wonderful, very helpful, humourous and service with a smile. We used the pool three times, it was good to relax in there after skiing, though being half-term there were plenty of kids as expected. We had read about robe hire being 10 Euro for the week each so expected that, some people had brought their own. Swim hats were mandatory, provided at 3.50 Euro each if you didnt have one. Although we didnt experience the entertainment it was well catered for, with the two very enthusiastic entertainers gathering kids around the restaurant after their meals. If I come to Passo Tonale again I would definitely use the Gardenia, highly recommended and good value for a three star hotel, and the staff really make it an enjoyable experience.
