Horrible Hotel, Avoid at All Costs

I booked this hotel as accommodation in Moscow was running out because of the World Cup and it had decent booking dot com reviews, boy what a monumental mistake that was. Here are some of the main issues: 1) rooms : I had to change rooms twice in a 4 day stay. First room the electricty was faulty and all appliances and lights in room didnt work. Second room the AC didnt work . Overall room while ok in size but it was damp, old and unclean as I found a variety of insects. The window broke while I was there. 2) service : staff barely speak English and are untrained to deal with travelers. There is not manager on duty, just a bunch of teenagers at the reception desk. 3) breakfast : very basic toast and cheeses and some very old meat sausages. Juice poured straight from box and coffee machine wasnt working properly. 4) location: for us this was the major problem. I can live with the above issues if the location is good , but the location of the hotel is disastrous. The closest train station is 30 minutes walk away. The hotel has a bus that goes every hour to the station, so you have to wait for that, or pay a taxi to take you to the station, as well as a taxi to take you back to hotel from the station. Once you take train, you are still far from everything else in Moscow. I have stayed in some bad hotels over the years , but Gallery Park has to be the worst hotel I stayed in. Overall, I would seriously avoid.

    Our World Championship Homebase

We stayed for 5 nights. Clean room, nice bathroom with big shower. Aircon was not usable (no remote in room), but inside temp was significantly lower than the 30 degrees celsius outside. Breakfast was very good, service very helpful. Location is very good for the price. 10-15 minutes to the centre using a car, uber was around 230rb (4) one way. Since this was so convenient, we didnot use the shuttle service to the subway station. Disappointing was the restaurant. Unfriendly waiter and no alcoholic beverages were served. Menu looked good, though. We decided not to eat there. I guess if there's no sports event in moscow, this might be better than our experience.

    Never ever will come back

The breakfast is not good: low quality and very simple. we tried once and had breakfast outside of hotel for the rest of our stay. The room service was awful, the toiletries were not replaced. And the housekeeper threw away our toothbrush cap which made me angry, they are not allowed to do that. The staff didn't speak good English and were not helpful. Location is not good, very far from every thing, at least 20 min drive by taxi. Transportation to and from hotel is hard. Even finding a way to hotel door was difficult for taxi driver. The hotel shuttle to metro station is in every one hour. The room was mall. The curtain was not thick enough and sunshine early in the morning was disturbing. The safe box was broken and we had to ask them to repair it. There is no elevator. It was a waste of money. To be fair: the interior design of hotel lobby was nice.

    A hidden gem

I stayed at Gallery Park for 2 nights while in Moscow to attend FIFA World Cup Semifinal 2 game. While booking, I was looking for a hotel that was close to Luzhniki stadium and along public transportation stops and Gallery Park was one of the last few that had rooms available. From Paveletskaya Metro station, Gallery Park is a 15 min ride by bus 106 or 158 to Derbenevskaya Embankment followed by a short 5 min walk. The hotel is 2 blocks behind the bus stop. There are security guards manning a parking gate arm 1 block behind the bus stop leading to some office buildings and the hotel is right behind these. I walked from the bus stop to the hotel at midnight following the completion of England vs Croatia game and had no problems. It was quiet but didn't feel unsafe. There is also a complimentary hotel shuttle that runs every hour to Paveletskaya station which I used once but it felt hot and stuffy inside and so I took bus 632 back to Paveletskaya station on another day. To go to Red Square, I took bus 158 from Derbenevskaya Emb. to Krasnaya Square the following day and it was a 20 min trip. On my check-out day, from Paveletskaya to Sheremetyevo airport, I took metro line 2 to Rechnoy Vokzal and caught marshrutka 949 to SVO and the whole trip took around 1.5 hours. So unlike what recent reviews state, in my opinion, this hotel is well-connected to Moscow's landmarks. You just need to use Google Maps to figure it out. This is not rocket science. As for check-in, it took a while because the front desk called me back to make new copies of my documents. I was assigned a room on the 3rd floor of the 2nd wing and the room looked beautiful and opulent to my eye. The 2nd wing seemed deserted and I didn't see anyone during the 2 nights I spent in that building. There's no elevator so I had to lug my suitcase up the staircase and the paintings at each level were a sight to behold. The highlight of the room was the closed shower stall in the bathroom. It felt cramped but had some cool fixtures. If only the digital controls for the audio system in the shower stall had worked... My only regret is missing out on the free breakfast on the morning following the game because I woke up late. But based on other reviews, it appears it was run-of-the-mill so I'm glad I didn't miss much. Room service did their job well and I have no complaints. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Gallery Park and if in Moscow again, I wouldn't hesitate to check-in here.
