Very comfortable self-catering accommodation in central Reykjavik

Our apartment was a self-contained one located to the rear of the main building with a small courtyard. Inside was everything we needed, including en-suite facilities and a fridge (I think there was also a freezer too). Very easy to keep warm - quite important out of season in Iceland! Ignore any reviews complaining about the smell of sulphur from the water - yes, the smell was very strong when taking a shower, but this is to do with the water supply in Reykjavik and not at all a negative point about this particular guesthouse. You get it everywhere! Recommended!

    Comfortable and Welcoming

We chose to stay here as it was on the opposite side of where we usually stay in Reykjavik. Next to the picturesque harbour in a quiet and pleasant residential area, and a short walk to the bars and restaurants at the top end of Laugavegur, Gallery Central gave us a warm welcome on checking in. The parking in the immediate vicinity is chargeable, but you can park for free just a couple of streets up from the harbour. Our studio came with a big outside patio which impressed our friends when they visited. The studio though was rather cramped - especially the single bed on the mezzanine - but it catered for all our needs. As we were visiting Reykjavik at the time of year when it is light 24 hours a day, I was pleased the blackout blinds did what they were supposed to do. It was the shower that amused me though. The shower base was probably one metre square, and contained in it were the toilet and a very narrow sink which meant in effect I could have had a shower, a shave and a sh** all at the same time, had I had the inclination to do so. The kitchenette too was very tight space wise, but the bed was wonderfully comfortable. I guess that Reykjavik is not an inexpensive place to stay - and Gallery Central therefore represented value for money, especially for its location. I did have cause to bring an issue to the attention of reception, but this was resolved swiftly, courteously and professionally. It is for this reason that I would recommend Gallery Central as a place to stay. When customer service is this good, I would probably choose to stay here again for a long weekend, but not for a week or more as the lack of space would have bothered me if I had stayed much longer.

A real gem with good value for money

We stayed here 2 nights and were delighted with this good value guest house. Location and cleanliness were perfect. Room was comfortable. Kitchen was fully outfitted. A nice quiet atmosphere for enjoying the city!

    An apartment as our bedroom!

This place is quite close to the center of Reykjavik. We didnt have to use our car as walking was way more pleasant and we didnt have to look for parking. We used our rental car only when we went outside the city. We were received with a heartily welcome and we were astounded how big this apartment was. It had a nice kitchen, a comfortable shower and bathroom, a table to eat on and even books and magazines. The beds were quite comfortable as well. The owner was quite nice and showed us our apartment. If we needed any help, we just had to ask her. We liked to leave the windows open while we were there. It gave us a nice draft. This is a cool place to visit Reykjavik.

Great place to stay in a great country

My partner and I stayed here for four nights as part of our holiday around Europe. Very reasonably priced given Iceland isn't cheap. We stayed in room 5 with the private bathroom and kitchen. Kitchen came in handy when we wanted to save from spending out in the city, had just about everything you need to cook most dishes. The room, bathroom and kitchen were all very clean. The beds were very comfortable and the heating certainly did the trick. No noise disturbance for outside and could hardly see the sun in the morning through the blinds. Nothing in reykjavik is far, but the location is minutes from the water, tours, flea market, groceries and the city centre. There's a great pub (Olsmiojan I think) about 10 minutes walk that sells pints for 490 krona. Reception were very friendly and happy to help. The wifi was playing up in our room but we were able to use the group rooms for Internet. Highly recommended when visiting Reykjavik.
