  Very Nice Hotel- Great Location

  The Ningbo Fumao is right next to the Crowne Plaza in the heart of Ningbo. It is centrally located near the central plaza and shopping area. It is a Chinese hotel with few foreigners but with excellent accomodations and a great price if you haggle. As with most nice Chinese hotels, the atrium is very impressive with rooms to match. Don't pay the posted price and be firm on your intentions. We paid 450RMB, about 65USD which was about half of what the Crowne Plaza cost. Rooms and public areas were every bit as nice as the Crowne Plaza. The central plaza with choreographed fountains that put on a show to western music at sunset should not be missed. Tchaicovsky's Violin Concerto to Can Can never looked more better. Families galore. Ningbo also has a wonderful library which is a combination of many privately owned libraries dating back to the 1500s. Nearby is an old temple area and park with water features that is Old China. The city is clean, the people friendly, and it seems very small town and laid back given its large population. We visited only to have a stop off on the road between Xiamen and Hangzhou, but it turned out to be a most enjoyable stop. Would have loved to have stayed longer, and this hotel was an excellent base. A very well dressed and successful looking business crowd in the Ningbo Fumao indicates that this hotel is well known to Chinese business people who want excellent accomodations. Decent but not extraordinary foot massage. Breakfast included and was reasonable but not exceptional. Good coffee, though.

  3 Star maximum.

  The pictures posted are very deceiving. The lobby is dark and empty, except for a few couches. The rooms are adequate, however the cleaning is very poor. I had the person come back 3 times to clean and it still was inferior. I had to insist that she vacuum, the toilet was not cleaned, she dusted around objects rather than move them. The bathroom door cannot be closed due to a damaged door frame. The one good item is that the location is good. I am sure this was a grand hotel once upon a time, now I think it is having a slow death and will disappear in the future

  Ultra Spacious Deluxe Twin Rooms!

  After 3 nights at the New Garden Hotel Ningbo, we went to Shaoxing for 2 nights and spent our last 2 nights in Ningbo at the Fumao Hotel . After a 45 mins train ride, we took a short taxi ride to this Hotel and was allowed to check in around noon - very nice indeed. Booked a Deluxe Twin room, expecting it to be a tad larger than the Standard Twin room, we were truly shocked to see that our assigned room 2212 was as huge as a complete Suite - walk in area, walk in wardrobe, huge bedroom, large bathroom area with a big square shaped tub and a separate shower. There were even two chairs and a small table for dinning, minibar, free Wifi ... While we were so happy with our room, little did we realised that this newly renovated room (new wallpaper and Neo Classical furniture - great!!!) is only shinny on its surface - safe not working, 3 ceiling lights above the bathroom sink has blown, hard to operate TV, a door that cannot be locked properly from the inside and so on. But the biggest shock has to be that the huge bathroom has no doors, yes, no doors or whatsoever! Thus, this room would have been perfect for couples but it's somewhat awkward for my mum and me. Had to admit the fact that after several calls to Housekeeping had seen technicians come immediately to repair the main door's locking system, teach us how to operate the complicated TV, change the 3 ceiling lights' bulbs etc. As for the bathroom door and the safe, however, these cannot be fixed, or so we were told. If not for this Hotel's softer beds, where I had slept soundly for 2 nights and its greater location compared to the nearby New Garden Hotel (much more nice restaurants and shopping surrounding the Fumao Hotel), I would have given this Hotel only a 3 stars rating. Though the staff are nice, they don't seem as professional to me. Breakfasts the next day was, quite surprisingly, pretty good for our Oriental taste buds. I mean for the lower rates charged at this Hotel, we had found that this Hotel has offered greater value for our money. One thing though, there were no fitness room or swimming pool here, much unlike the New Garden which has a huge pool. As our flight back to Singapore was at 6.15pm, I had requested for a late check out till 4pm, and was charged an extra RMB$100 - a fair price we thought. For this Hotel's location, you can catch a passing taxi much more easily than at the New Garden Hotel. Only slight negative was, the walk to the ChengHuan Temple subway station is slighter further for this Hotel. Overall, this would have been an excellent Hotel to stay in Ningbo if the Hotel management keeps up the maintenance of its rooms.
