A good choice in the area!

We stayed here for one night. Hotel is very close to the train station, approximately 5 mins walk. Restaurants, cafes and shops are all within 10-15 walk. I'm sure there is transport, but we didn't use any since it's quite nice to walk and see what is around the place. Check-in is nice and swift. Extremely polite and cheerful staff who spoke perfect English. Don't expect a posh looking room. It's like a hotel room in early 90s, but it's well-maintained, spacious and clean! Breakfast is the highlight. Japanese style breakfast where you a brought a tray with many little dishes, including pickles, fish to grill, a little barbecue set. Rice, soup, salad, juice, tea and coffee are served in a buffet style. Right amount of food so you won't be stuffing your face, yet everything is decent. I'll come back to this hotel if I ever go to Fukui again.

    Respect, Relax and enjoy Fukui!!!

We arrived here after staying in a cramped hotel in Kyoto. Here our adult son had his own room. In Kyoto a small twin was squeezed into a triple. We enjoyed a larger twin room. Wonderful service, very clean rooms, older but still very well maintained. There was so much to do in Fukui despite other Japanese people not being aware of its attractions. We went to the Dinosaur musuem, visited an incredible working monastery that is perhaps one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, saw the Asakura Clan Ruins, and, our son revisited his high school exchange town. The Fukui Phoenix Hotel is very close to the railway station, has convenient car parking if you hire a car like we did and is close to eateries. We had a traditional breakfast everyday while there and it was a highlight. We loved our stay here and despite our lack of Japanese, we felt understood and welcomed.

Great location and delicious locally-sourced Japanese breakfast

Had a wonderful stay here for two adults and one teenager. Great location close to the Kencho, rail station, and downtown Fukui. Breakfast was included in our rate and was definitely a first-rate meal -- local fish, noodles, etc. If you get a chance, book the Japanese room (futons on tatami). In addition to the bedroom, it had a small room overlooking the old castle that doubled as my daughter's personal bedroom. Limited English spoken, but enough to get by. We had a car and found easy, inexpensive parking nearby.

    Fantastic breakfast.

Stayed for 3 nights in cherry blossom season which luckily turned it on for us. Rooms were large and clean and the hotel is well situated close to the station. And wow that breakfast, for the price it was excellent value and great quality. Virtually no English spoken....make sure you know some basic Japanese, the staff like most in Japan were of course very polite and very helpful.

Excellent hotel location for a day trip to Eiheiji

Leave the station, cross the street to the 7-Eleven passing the roaring, moving dinosaurs (yes thats what I said), turn right, go under the covered walkway to the next corner plus one, turn left at the light and walk down the street and you are there. We arrived in the rain and the covered walk along the main road was very welcome. Our Japanese style non-smoking room had a huge entry way, a main tatami room, and an enclosed porch. The room had a lot of wasted space in the entry and the porch was crowded with big furniture so it was almost useless. The advertised large space of 366 square feet was not all usable space. Our room was on a lower floor which meant our view from the porch to the castle moat was blocked by the (ugly) hotel roof. I wish we had asked for a different room, but it was just for 2 nights so we didnt bother. It was quite chilly without heat and we requested extra blankets. The room did have a good heating control, once we learned how to use it. The desk staff was pleasant and they had some English, enough to check us in and answer our questions.
