  Awesome place to stay!

  5 of us stayed at Fujiwara Ryokan in late November. Among all the accommodations we have stayed all around upper half of Kyushu, this is the absolute cleanest and neatest, even the common bath! We were all very impressed. The room(Tsurukame no ma) we had was huge and more than enough for the 5 of us. We drove an MPV and the ground floor car park space is big enough for it. The room had a lot of tourist information pamphlets on attractions and food around Nagasaki. The futons were nice and comfortable. There is a washing machine and a dryer, all coin operated. Mr Fujiwara is a kind elderly gentlemen who doesn't speak fluent English but communication is not a problem at all. We checked in late, at around 9pm but he welcomed us just as warmly(we did call in earlier to inform him, you should do the same if you are going to be late). One of my companions had forgotten to take her watch when we checked out. We emailed Mr Fujiwara on the same day and he responded within a few hours and offered to post it to our home address. Luckily we have a friend in Osaka and he posted it there instead. Sorry Mr Fujiwara for the trouble and thank you again for sending the watch back to us. All in all, we had a magnificent stay though, regretfully, we only stayed for one night. Definitely will go back there if I visit Nagasaki again.

  A real experience!

  We wanted the experience of staying in a genuine ryokan and this certainly ticked that box. The tatami mats, paper walls, hot baths, toilet slippers, yukatas, green tea and rolling out your bed at night time - it is all just so different from a 'normal' Western-style hotel. When you arrive, there are indoor slippers for you to wear during your stay, but select with care, as most are only about size 6. The owner appears miraculously every time you arrive and leave and his friendliness is a highlight of the stay. With his limited English and my limited Japanese we managed to communicate effectively. Unfortunately breakfast wasn't available during our stay. Wi-fi worked well. There are laundry facilities and a microwave should you need them, as well as a fridge in the room. The location is good, about 10-15 minutes on foot from the central station and there are some good restaurants in the area - the Char-Grilled Yakitori Torimasa Ebisu is well worth a visit, but try making a reservation for dinner if possible, as it is very busy during the evenings.

  Lovely hosts but

  Not for older folks...feels like a hostel and you sleep on the floor, of course...back did. Not like it....no lift for baggage...just tea in the room or anywhere close.... Coffee a good hike in the morning,.. Its in a dense neighborhood and our room had no view. Inexpensive, tho!

  A little gem

  We felt at home moment we stepped in. Fujiwara San is a lovely gentleman whose warmth is felt in the entire ryokan. Rooms were clean, spacious and airy. Wish we had more than two nights here as there are lots of activities in Nagasaki other than peace park and museum

  Nice Ryokan with kind hosts and good value

  We stayed in Fujiwara Ryokan for one night. We received a warm welcome and the hosts were pleasurable. The location is convenient coming from the station, and within 10-15 mins walk there are several areas of interest. Clean, with decent facilities, it outperforms others in this price range.
