  Prison Break in Bavaria

  We stayed a few nights in different rooms - mostly the Direktorensuite. If you consider that you are in Amberg - this hotel is really very special. Located in the old town you can reach everything by walking. You can feel like a prisoner wearing the stripes and ordering bread and water for breakfast - if you prefer a bit more luxury and a really nice room take the suite. Do not forget the building was a prison so the rooms are small - but offering everything you need. Really stylish equipped, with quaint details and beautiful arches in some rooms. The staff was always very helpful and freindly. For us the only address to stay in Amberg.

  You hVe the key

  Great place to stay if you like something different. Rooms small but comfortable with shower units in bedroom. Great if your roommate is close! Good service and as a married couple we really enjoyed our stay. Staff, in bizarre uniform I ha e seen too many WW2 movies, very helpful. Very god location and close to mist old city attractions.

  Amazing experience - sleep in a medieval prison

  I already heard a lot about this hotel which opened a few years ago and is a converted prison. So when my destiny took me to Amberg we decided to get ourselves locked in!! The hotel has most of its prison cell structure preserved but recently converted to a high end high quality hotel. Doors and many other features have been kept / integrated in the hotel design. Service is excellent and you are certain to get discharged if you behave well!!

  Unique without being Kitsch or Creepy

  Theres actually some history behind this hotel, which makes its prison motif interesting without being creepy. My wife was worried about the creepiness aspect, but she agreed it just wasnt there. The rooms (very clean with a modern bathroom) had a historical feel without being run down. The staff was polite and helpful. Parking garage is located behind the hotel and is a 30 second walk. Very convenient. Its a short walk to downtown Amberg, where there are plenty of restaurants and shopping areas. Breakfast is good. There are some interesting and humorous references throughout the hotel, to include the lobby restrooms (picture included). Ill stay here again if Im in Amberg.

  Interesting hotel

  The hotel is very good. Interesting concept. I spent two nights in room for 1 person. The room is small but well equipped. There was small window so I missed daylight and the door to main floor is not soundproofed. The breakfast was very good. Overall the hotel is good, you have to count with some specifics which keep the hotel close to the origin prison concept.
