OK for a short stayWe stayed for one night (Sunday). Booking & Checkin was good & staff were friendly - although we were a bit alarmed about the Covid procedures - no-one wearing masks in the main reception area. Our room was OK. It was not particularly large, modern or well appointed. Just adequate for a 1 or 2 night stay. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The price was really good - and £5 for parking seemed OK. We had no reason to use the restaurant so cannot comment on that.

Great Place to Stay!If youre a weary traveler passing through Worcester, this is the place for you! Warm welcome, dog-friendly and affordable in all aspects. Although the rooms are a little dated, its to expected in the price you pay to stay here. The amenities are good; tea/coffee/biscuits, hair dryer, shirt iron, etc offered as standard. I was uncomfortable in a bed offered previously, they gave me an upgrade, free of charge, and had a wonderful nights sleep! Absolutely fantastic work they are doing for the local homeless, dont let previous reviews put you off! They are all friendly, polite, quiet and above all, deserving of a better future...! Huge thanks to Dale, Brian, Pascal and Shaun... the staff who made my stay memorable.

Gosh, where do I start? This is a really difficult to write but Ive tried to be fair in my review. This is, by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in but not because of the homeless residents. They were actually polite and friendly and caused no issue whatsoever. The staff were also very nice. The hotel room was large and the bed was comfortable but the room was dirty. The shower curtain was ripped and the toiletries looked as though they should have been put in the bin. On our first night we were woken at 3 in the morning by the smoke alarm. We then spent about 20 minutes outside in the freezing cold. By the smell in the corridors it was clear that the evacuation was caused by smoking. The same thing happened on the second night but we didnt actually have to evacuate as the alarm was switched off (but not before I was dressed). The hotel advertised breakfast in the price. This consisted of a bag containing an apple, croissant and yoghurt. It was cheap and nasty!!! Worcester itself is a nice city; the cathedral is worth seeing and there are plenty of nice cafes and restaurants. I think this hotel would benefit from closing its doors to paying customers and giving the bedrooms a complete overhaul. Its a shame that such a historic building is looking so tired.

Not covid-19 safeWent in to the fownes Monday 9th November to book a room for the night and when I walked in with a mask on (as per covid law) not one other person was wearing a mask or any other face covering, I could see security, reception staff and other staff just mingling with others. I stood there for a number of minutes whilst not one person acknowledged me, security was too busy playing chess with someone. I have learnt since that they are using the fownes to house people as temporary housing, which I have no problem with at all but these must of been the other people who were walking around with no face coverings on. Shame on you fownes for not helping fight this virus and for losing a booking.

Weekend StayWe chose this hotel as it is dog friendly. The hotel is in a great location for Worcester but was incredibly quiet. The restaurant and bar were not open and if you wanted the included breakfast you had to collect it from reception. Luckily we found a dog friendly pub just up the road where we ate both dinner and breakfast. The hotel does house the local homeless, we were aware of this and found those residents we encountered to be polite and friendly. The only time I felt a little uncomfortable was when we went out by the main entrance and had to walk through a group of males drinking from cans and one was smoking. The other concern for us was that no-one staff or resident were wearing face masks at any time. The hotel asks for a security deposit which is the first time we have been charged this despite having stayed in 4/5 star hotels in both the UK and overseas. We were booked to stay for 2 nights but left on the second day. The person who checked us out did not ask why. The few staff we encountered were polite but came across as disinterested, I imagine they prefer their homeless guests as they do not have any demands for food and service etc. The room was clean and what would be expected for a 3 star city hotel. I doubt we would return.
