  The opposite of palatial

  When we arrived, the first thought on seeing the sad, neglected foyer/reception area was 'uh oh'. I think we were the only people staying there, and it had an lonely, folorn look to it all. However, its positive points were that the staff were friendly and helpful (they even volunteered to get up and give us an early breakfast at 5am, because we had a really early start...which we did decline, but it was nice of them to offer). The rooms were pretty grotty: mystery bottles of liquid in the bathroom, a bath towel welded to the floor, possibly with mould, who knows? Considering that we were the only people staying there, they could have given us a room with a view, but we got a room with a view of...a wall! Cheered ourselves up with a shower which could be described as lukewarm at best, and then got into the beds which didn't look as though they had the cleanest sheets in the world. We felt almost sorry for the place, and decided that it was officially the 'saddest' place we stayed in on the whole holiday! Unless it sorts itself out and has a serious refurbishment (or even just a good clean would be a start) I cannot imagine how much longer a place like this could last, given all the better options which exist in Amman at similar prices...

  Nice people

  The Hotel Firas Palace lies in Amman downtown and has a far more better location as any of these well known business hotels in West Amman if you wanna explore this great capital. The service is really good and they can help you with almost everything...The only thing that seemed a bit strange to us was that this hotel had no guests - for sure that was due to low season and U.S fear of terrorism, closing down 25 ambassies in islamic countries during our stay..but maybe the hotel git some negative reviews on this site...The rooms were perfectly clean, breakfast was goog, staff was great...so give that hotel a chance :-) GO for it...

  Good for what it is

  I paid 30 JD for this place. It is very basic, but clean. The staff was very nice. If you want a clean budget hotel near downtown then this is a good option. I wouldn't pick this place if you wanted a bustling and vibrant hotel. It is very quiet and doesn't get a lot of foot traffic...at least when I was there.

  Excellent service. But that's it.

  One of those places you either love or hate. It seems to be stuck in time. In a good way. It has a certain early 90s charm which modern hotels are lacking. Service is friendly. When I check in, the hotel staff gives me a choice of three rooms to pick. I choose a suite without paying a cent more. Thats because the hotel is practically empty. I only recall seeing a family staying there. It can be rather creepy for the faint hearted. My room isn't spotless clean, either it is too shabby. In the night, I find myself with a couple of mosquito bites. Lucky for me, the mosquitoes would be quickly eradicated the next day with a bottle of insecticide. Hot water is not readily available. I have to inform the reception desk to turn it on. Sounds like a big inconvenience, but its not that bad. The Wi-Fi signal is strongest at the lobby area. Breakfast is a big letdown though: slices of Arabic bread with a boiled egg, sour cream, butter and jam. Coffee and tea are included. The hotel is just an easy five-minute walk down a slope to downtown. But from downtown, its a rather challenging climb up the same slope. I would give high marks for its excellent service and for its character. But sadly, thats only as far as I'll go.

  Better value elsewhere

  We were literally the only guests in the hotel so the AC was not turned on. They gave us a fan for our room and dropped the rate when we complained. They had a few rooms ready but the only double room was in the back facing a rock wall where the wifi didn't reach and the cable wasn't working. We had to sit in the hall to use the internet. The room wasn't very clean either. There was trash on the floor, including a condom wrapper, and a disgusting mat on the bathroom floor. It is close to the downtown sights, which are just down the hill, but I recommend another hotel. Staff weren't able to provide tourist information when asked.
