Delightfully charmingA charming and warm place to base ourselves for a short stay of 4 nights. Lovely clean room overlooking pretty street. Welcoming reception and staff despite our poor Italian. Brilliant location within comfortable walking distance of most sights and reasonable priced parking provided by hotel. Breakfast was simple and in delightful breakfast room. Have nothing to complain about at all.

Charming family hotelLovely traditional hotel, right in the heart of the old town. Our family room was reasonably spacious for four. Easy to walk to myriad shops and restaurants from the hotel. Parking nearby can be arranged by the hotel for 8 per day - you cannot park on the street anywhere near the hotel. Good value and recommended!

Very comfortable hotelI loved my room here. Very charming, located within walking distance to the Duomo and restaurants. Very nice staff. I only had one night, but would love to return. Orvieto was beautiful and interesting. I was there early November, so it was off-season. Nice time to go.

Great location, friendly staff but that's about itWe stayed at Hotel Filipeschi for four nights. It is a small quaint hotel located near the historic center. The staff is courteous. The bedspread and linen were not clean. The room we had was OK but not as comfortable as other 3 star hotels we stayed at in Italy. The shower was very small with few quality toiletries. There are stairs and no elevator but the staff did help us take the heaviest of our bags to our room on the top floor. The breakfast was mostly packaged items and machine coffee that was not good. The milk was sour on the one day we ate there. My recommendation is to have breakfast at one of the nearby restaurants. Overall, we enjoyed Orvieto but our experience at this hotel, while not horrible, was one of the least satisfying of our 6 weeks in Italy. On a return visit, we would try another hotel.

Mediocre hotel with bad communication skillsThe good news is the Filippeschi hotel is close to the city center and isn't too expensive. As you'd expect for a cheaper property, the accommodations are just OK. But I expect that and would have given the place a fairly nice review if that was the only problem. The first issues for me was their breakfast. I've been to Italy lots of times but the complimentary breakfast wasn't even average. But my bigger issue was the staff's communications skills. The thing is, most of Orvieto's old town doesn't allow for car traffic. So I called and emailed them as to what to do. They said, hey if you pay a little extra, we have a lot you can park in. Just drive up and drop your bags off and we'll show you where. So I followed Google maps to the city. And suddenly I'm in a pedestrian only zone and I'm getting LOTs of angry looks. I got out of there and parked, then walked 10 blocks through the rain with my bags. The older guy at the front desk was very nice but he had almost no English skills. And he couldn't understand my situation. The next person at the desk was no better. I finally found someone who told me the best place to park. -- And she got a bit offended that I said I shouldn't have to pay for their parking since by now I'd done that on my own. Even that wouldn't have bothered me too much. But I got a Huge parking ticket in the mail from the city of Orvieto for driving in a pedestrian area. And that wouldn't have happened if they had given me a better route to their hotel or just told me of a parking lot outside the pedestrian zone. These days most hotels in Italy do fairly well in English. I didn't get that at the Hotel Filippeschi and it cost me.
