No recomendable,

Most magical wedding everWe had our wedding here and it was the best decision we could have made. Mary and Neil have over 25years experience of weddings & you can tell. From organising the entertainment to having a back up plan if the weather was bad. Our vows were taken outside with just a hint of rain. The food, service, setting were truly magical. They looked after everything for us and our family cant wait to go back for our 1st anniversary

Valentine OvernightAbsolutely delighted with the overnight at Fernie Castle. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and room was out of this world. Will definitely be recommending Fernie Castle to family and friends. Looking forward to our next visit.

Very enjoyable Itison dinner and stayWe were given an Itison voucher as a present and it wasnt until a couple of days before our visit that we read the reviews and then had some concerns - but I can only assume that the vast majority of people do not understand that they have been visiting a 500 year old castle which is a three star hotel. We run a restaurant ourselves so understand the hospitality world but based on our experience we can only assume that many of the visitors are extremely picky and I know that many Itison users are bargain hunters expecting twice what they should. In life - you usually get what you pay for! Anyway, on to our review! We enjoyed the food served for dinner and breakfast was OK too. Most of it very well cooked and fresh. The dining room was spotless (cutlery and glasses etc.). Neil, the owner I believe, was helpful whenever we asked for something and, considering there were only 5 rooms plus the treehouse staying the night we were there, we were able to find a staff member pretty quickly. We stayed in Sep 2020 when covid is still around and Neil advised us before we arrived that they clean the rooms with a fogging machine (we actually saw the machine behind the reception desk when there too) and the staff mainly wore masks and hand sanitiser was available. We were happy with the covid precautions. The room was clean (a couple of hairs in the bath, a wee bit of dirt on windowsill and a hair bobble was the extent of the awful dirtiness that some other reviewers complained about and believe me we were looking based on the other reviews), the bed comfy, the duvet cosy and even the Prosecco and chocolates thrown in with the deal were good (weve been to 5* resorts and been given much worse sparkling wine as part of a deal). I dont know if forgotten (and sure we could have got if we asked) but we didnt have a bathmat. The grounds were also nice for a wander about with pygmy goats, a cat, horses and chickens. Unfortunately Neils two Highland Cows died earlier in the year. The lochan has a lot of algae that would probably look much better if treated but I understand in these challenging financial times that it might not be a priority but one to consider in the future. The sitting room and events space on the first floor are worth spending a bit of time in - amazing wallpaper in the sitting room and the events room has two large thrones which are good for photos. Bar is cute. All in all, for a 500 year old castle it is in impressive condition and if you understand you are attending a three star hotel then your expectations may not envisage absolutely everything to be perfect but I think most (non-picky, non-moany) people would enjoy their experience at Fernie Castle and for a short break I would definitely recommend. We enjoyed our one night stay with dinner and breakfast and especially as our first overnight stay since covid arrived in our lives. Good luck to Neil and his team for getting through the current climate and coming back stronger in 2021.
