Very nice as long as you accept the location for what it is

We used the aparthotel whilst in schladming for a week's skiing. The hotel is situated in an elevated position up the other side of the valley to the main ski area and town. Whilst there is a free ski bus on your lift pass that goes to the main lift station from the bottom of the drive we didn't always find it that regular (snowy road conditions may have added to this) and at peak times often full with sometimes another bus following, but sometimes not. The walk to the station albeit mainly downhill takes 20 - 25 minutes in normal footwear and to town just less than 20 minutes. The best and shortest way we found to walk to the station was to turn right at the bottom of the drive, take the 1st left turn just down the hill almost going back on yourself, then take a right at the fork in the road and right in front of the 1st apartment building on your right that takes you down a track with the railway and river on your right. At the bottom turn right over the level crossing and over the river bridge and then straight on more or less to the station. **TOP TIP** Hire out a locker in the ski depot underneath the station - works out at about 3 euros a head per day. Well worth it. Lockers can be purchased at the lift pass desk. They come for 2 or 4 persons and have ample room for all your skis/boards, boots and helmets. They programme everybody who is sharing lift passes to open and lock the lockers. The changing rooms are spacious, warm and clean and have good toilets. Serviced by lift, escalator and stairs. Great to save you lugging your gear on the ski bus or walking with it every day and great to allow you to go for aprez or a look around town before heading back to the hotel. If you use the ski bus to return (last 1 is 18:10) then beware that you need to get off further down the hill than you got on and walk up. It's the 1st main stop up the hill after leaving town. Ring the bell as you go under the bridge and see the blue tomato on the side of the building in front. If you've got your skis/board on the back be quick to get them off - the driver set off with a lads board still on when we were there! It's a good walk back down the hill if you miss the stop. Whilst I may agree with other reviewers that it's not quite a 4 star the hotel was very good overall. Most friendly and welcoming staff, large and clean rooms and good plentiful food. Plenty of choice for buffet breakfast and a choice of starters, mains and deserts in the evening with a salad bar also. We didn't go hungry in fact probably ate too much. The fact that there is no manned bar as mentioned in other reviews wasn't an issue at all. The restaurant staff were most attentive to waiter/waitress drinks on request in the lounge area or at your table. Although the beer/drinks from the supermarket in town was much better value to supplement the drinks we bought in the hotel. Free sauna that you need to book at reception. **TOP TIP** that we were given by a locally working ski guide. Get the 900S free ski bus to Gladming one morning from where you get off the ski bus from the hotel next to the main lift station, then ski/board your way back across to Schladming to make a full day on the mountain. Saves sitting on too many lifts going the other way and then having to rush back for the last lifts back home. Plenty to go at in week and more access to other resorts on the same lift pass if you've transport and time on your hands. Lovely tree lined runs, which were a blessing in the snowy low light conditions we encountered. We noticed that the hotel has an arrangement with the local ski school to pick up learners in a mini bus to take them to ski school. We suggested to the hotel that they look to run their own shuttle bus service for all hotel guests at peak times to and from the main lift station to stop reliance on the indifferent ski bus service. That would push the hotel much closer to a 4 star from a skiers perspective. In saying that once you get into your head where the hotel is located and accept this for what it is, it is a lovely hotel and 1 worth serious consideration. We'd stay again as or when we're in the area, deffo if they just put on that shuttle bus.

Nice hotel - ski bus unreliable

We stayed in January 2019 for a weeks skiing. Nice hotel, clean and comfortable rooms, good food, friendly and helpful staff . But the ski bus was very unreliable- it did not come according to the timetable, and when it did eventually arrive it was often full. A lot of time was wasted waiting for bus or walking 25 mins into town to the ski lift. The bus stop is not outside the hotel front door - it is approximately 4-5 minute walk along hotel drive to the bus stop. Description of ski bus stop in relation to hotel very misleading.

    Ski trip

The hotel was very welcoming and spotless. We were in a basic room, no balcony and at the back of the hotel. It was reasonably sized and spacious. The room needed a seating area as there was only one small wooden chair. The shower was good and there was a hairdryer. The toilet was separate but within the room. The food was very good and there was a hot cooked option at breakfast. The evening meal also had three main choices (you picked at breakfast). The drinks were reasonably priced. The hotel had small bar area which to be fair was a bit dire. There was no atmosphere and could have been so much better. Given the location of the hotel, they would have a captive audience for bar customers. Getting to town could be an issue. In the morning there was a good ski bus service and thus ran until about 7pm. After that it was a 20 minute walk, downhill going but a steep walk back. We kept our skis and boots in the town(the ski hire shop did this free) a locket cost 35 euros for a weeks storage. The hotel has a heated ski room for guests. Overall it was a good stay as long as you are prepared for the out of town location.

Lovely base for a week's skiing

I spent a week in a hotel room (they also have apartments) in the Ferienalm in January booked through Crystal and had a lovely stay. The rooms are basic, but comfortable, warm, clean and quiet. The beds are very comfortable. Wifi works in the bedrooms, but does drop out occasionally. The bathroom and toilet are fine, though the water pressure in the shower can go up and down randomly, presumably when lots of people are using them at the same time. There's a lift to all floors. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The receptionists and restaurant staff speak excellent English. The food is superb here; breakfast is an extensive hot and cold buffet, and dinner is a choice of 2x starters, 3x mains and 2x desserts (picked from a menu at breakfast) and a nice salad buffet. I do agree with other reviews that given the out of town location, more could be made of the bar area in the evenings. Other people have complained about the distance to town and/or the ski bus service, and while they aren't completely trivial problems, I don't feel they're as bad as others have said. The hotel is on the free bus route between the town centre and the Dachstein Glacier (960). The stops are at the end of the hotel's driveway, a couple of mins walk from the hotel front door at most. According to the timetable, the 960 runs about every 30mins in the morning, and 1hr in the afternoon, but they're often 5-10mins late (and sometimes a few mins early). The ride takes about 5mins to the main gondola station in Schladming, or just over 30mins to the Dachstein Glacier. Alternatively, it took me about 12-15mins to walk downhill to the gondola station, and about 20mins to walk back up to the hotel; I've definitely had worse walks in other resorts, and renting a locker at the gondola saves walking in ski gear. If you want any of the other buses (the 900S along the valley bottom to either end of the main ski area, for example) you'd need to change at the main gondola station. I believe if you are in ski school, a shuttle bus is provided to the ski school meeting place, but I'm not sure. I'd definitely recommend this hotel, and would happily stay here again.

Quiet, lovely hotel away from the crowds.

Spent a week here via Crystal Ski and had a wonderful stay. We were fortunate to be upgraded from a double room to a spacious apartment with mountain views. The ski bus stop was a 5 minute walk and the service efficient. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent with a good choice of food which included veggie and fish on many occasions. Staff service was very good and efficient. Schladming is an extensive ski area over 4 mountains offering skiing for all abilities. We would like to return for another stay soon. A big thank you to all the hotel team who made our stay so special.
