Overall a nice experience. We have stayed in some other Familotels before and we mostly enjoyed them. Especially Petschnighof in Austria where we went 2 times. The quotations that are given by Familotel are not always related to e.g. the quality of food, but more to the fact that there is an inside swimming pool, etc. Anyway this Familotel had the maximum quotation from the Familotel organisation. We, as travellers around the globe, and staying in many different places, and luxury hotels already knew of course that this was not going to be a luxury holiday, but a family-children holiday. And despite the fact that I don't like mass hotels for families, where sometimes you could have the feeling it is a factory, this familotel is working hard in all aspects to make a difference and to go the extra mile. The quality of the food was not high end, but it was really good, as well the breakfeast as the lunch as the dinner. The rooms were spacious, I only did not really like the comfort of the beds and also the sofa in the living was not so comortable. The activities for children were numerous and really good. Our children liked to go to the Happy Club, even usually they do not like to do things alone, but here they did, so congratulations to this hotel! I also almost used the sauna every day. It was nice to have this possibility, even till 10 pm in the evening. We also had a great ski experience, which was not planned and we never did it, but the hotel is situated just next to some ski lifts and ski schools, so we all took lessons ( even our 7 and 3 year old children ) and we loved it. The staff in the hotel was in general very friendly. For me to give a recommendation of very good is already a big step, so this is a place where I might come back in the future.

Fantastic place for childrenIt was indeed a fantastic place for kids. There are indoor play grounds, organised activities for kids, indoor trampoline area (minimum age 3 years), climbing area (minimum age 5 years), artificial ice-ring (minimum age 3 years), pony riding (10 min a day is included with the all inclusive stay, minimum age 3 years, closed on bank holidays), 3 swimming pool areas with different water depths and a water slide (not exhaustive list). If the weather is good, hiking possibilities are also fantastic. Food and drinks are virtually around all day and there is a large choice. We very much enjoyed the stay there. The only drawback for the parents is constantly dropping WiFi connection which only one device per room can be connected to at the time, as well as the poor TV signal. Otherwise fantastic stay for families with kids.

Summer holiday with the children - fair value for moneyWe stayed one week in July with 2 adults and 2 children (3&7 years). Overall the hotel is to recommend for a stay with children; offers a fair value for money. Positive points: - Nice room; we booked the so called "family apartment 1b" type: spacious and nicely refurbished hotel suite with 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchenette, bathroom (without bath or shower) and extra bathroom with separate shower. - Catering was good; with booked the all-in formula with: 1) breakfast: typical buffet (incl. boiled & scrambled eggs, but not prepared according to individual wishes). I only missed croissants; was offered only 1 day out of the 7. 2) lunch: buffet with soup, cold starters, 3 main dishes (good variety during the week), desserts, and a separate children's buffet (always fries + a type of pasta + meet or fish that varies over the week). 3) afternoon snacks and desserts (croques, sandwiches, fruit, pastry, ice-cream). 4) dinner: choice between main restaurant with setup comparable to the lunch or the "specialty restaurant" (entitled to visit 2x/week) with cheese fondue, chinese meat fondue or spare-ribs and burgers (NB: in that restaurant, there is a separate children area in case the children wish to eat with their club friends and their food is presented in boots like in some sushi bars). 5) drinks: non-alcoholic (until 22h) and fountain with 4 wines & 2 beers (until 21h). Not a gastronomic delight, but above average quality & variation when comparing to most other hotel buffets I experienced. - Activities for the children: outdoor & indoor playgrounds, children's clubs for different age groups with daily different acitivities, free and unlimited access to new "Fundorena" indoor sports center accross the street (trampoline park, synthetic ice skating rink, 8 high ropes tracks). - Indoor swimming pool with slide and (small) wellness area. Free towels and bathrobes. - Hochschwarzwald card: gives free or reduced access to a series of tourist attractions, including daily free 15mins pony riding (indoor, accross the street), daily free trip on the mountain cable car, daily free entrance for 1,5 hours to tropical swimming complex Badeparadies Titisee (15 mins drive) with lots of slides,... - Area: though not comparable with a mountain holiday in the Alps, still nice walking tracks. The village itself has not a lot to offer however. Tip for children <10: 2km "dwarf" walk ("Wichtelpfad") next to the hotel (in the wood, with decorated scenes and playground). - Friendly and helpful reception staff. - Free parking underneath the building. - Free and quite stable WiFi. Negative/attention points: - Don't judge the hotel on the outside look; quite outdated. Inside is nicely refurbished, however with not a lot of windows in the public areas so limited daylight. - No possibility to drink something in the pool/wellness area. - No outdoor swimming pool. - Village itself very small and don't expect lots of shops or restaurants/bars (we don't really missed that however since we took the all-in formula in the hotel). - Only one negative experience with hotel staff: when entering the area with the beverages fountain, a staff member rudely yelled at me if I couldn't see that he was cleaning the floor (20 meters away). Overall, staff was friendly and helpful however this kind of reaction is not to be expected in any hotel. - Note that we booked a hotel room (type apartment 1b) in the main building. The hotel offers also some "apartments" in an adjacent building. They didn't seem to have the same refurbished look as the hotel rooms in the main building. In general, I appreciated the stay and would recommend it for families for a summer holiday with children who like to combine hiking and relaxing.

Nice location and lots of facilities for people with kidsWe rented an appartment here, next to the hotel. The appartment was a bit outdated but spacious, except for a tiny kitchen. There is plenty to do here with kids, both indoor as outdoor. We could use the facilities of the hotel. The hotel has a large pool for adults, a fun pool for kids and even a baby pool. There is miniature golf in the hotel, an indoor playground, a trampoline park next door, ... With the Hoch Schwarzwald card, you can visit a lot of things for free. You will not be bored! The food is good, especially the Italian Sinner Zit restaurant. Though I would have loved a bit more restaurants in the neighbourhood. Other minor points: almost all staff members speak German exclusively which makes it very hard to communicate. Also, not all staff members are friendly which I find quite disturbing for a hotel. There is children's animation in the hotel. However, when we asked about it on the third day, the hotel said we were a day too late and could no longer book it. We were a bit disappointed because nobody told us it was an option in the first place and it really does not make any sense as to why our child could not participate any of the other days. All in all, nice location with lots of things to do for people with kids!
