Garbage Resort Calabria. That would be more fair to say.

Dear viewer, I encourage you to think twice before booking this place especially if you are travelling with the family. Firstly, this hotel is not a classic all-inclusive as for instance in Turkey. Most drinks (including bottled water), ice cream, beach towels, safe and other essential all-inclusive attributes are for extra charge. Given a very remote location of this place from grocery shops, bars and restaurants, this fact could seriously hit your mood and wallet. Staff. Unfortunately, only two ladies at the front desk managed to solve the issues during our 2-week stay there. The rest were unfriendly, unhelpful and in some cases even rude (like a Russian speaking lady at the reception). Internet. Keep in mind that there is no wi-fi coverage on the territory at all, except for the main building and if you are sitting very close to the signal. Insects. They are everywhere. Flies in the canteen that are crawling on the food. Mosquitoes, ants and other bugs are frequent guests in the room, especially if you are lucky enough to live on the first floor. Noise. Any sea resort is a noisy place, it is true. But living in the room next to the entrance door on the first floor of C block in Garden Resort Calabria has outperformed all my previous experiences. Every night for my small kid, wife and myself was a nightmare. Keep in mind that the first floor of each block is a passage yard. Thus, if you are a risky person who decided to spend some time at this hotel, try to book a room upstairs and not too close to the elevators. Try viewing a room before check-in, if staff allows you to do that (in our case I spend 30 minutes for debates with the front desk personnel). Safety. I did not notice any cameras in the living areas, thus we did not feel safe enough in the hotel. Living in a building next to the forest would be a sort of nerves tickling. The sea. It was our main reason of choosing this hotel. The pictures from Internet are perfect but in fact you will get a garbage basin full of plastic bottles and seaweed. Also you would need to walk about 15 minutes from the hotel through the forest, find a place on the beach and walk 100 meters from the sunbeds to the water. The forest is wonderful actually but those walking activities will start to get nervous on the third day. In conclusion, Garden Resort Calabria welcomes guests with old infrastructure, poor services and room equipment, tasteless deserts, wine in plastic cups (in Italy!), insect swarms and dirty sea for a significant amount of money under the fake all-inclusive slogan. If you do not want to waste your vacation, I would recommend finding a better option somewhere else in Calabria (e.g. Tropeo or Regio).

great place for fun and holidays

It is a great place for summer holidays. Hotel is placed on very big green area. Rooms are simple but comfortable. Pool is big and there is no problem with free sunbeds - you always can find some. Food varied and tasty, except buffet there are also additional attractions like pizzeria and grill. All inclusive drinks good, but choice can be bigger, especially for women. Last, but not least - animation team was wonderful! Niko, Alex, Marta, Bodi, Paola and all other animators (hope I did not mistake your names guys:) was doing really great job there. They organized sport competitions, evening shows, but they also just hanging around and chatting with people, so after one day you feel like they are your friends. I can strongly recommend this hotel and this team to everyone!

    Es wird...

Sea & beach: perfect. But go there in the morning, in the afternoon it gets a bit dirty from time to time. Adult pool: perfect. A friendly bagnino will always make sure that no children disturb the relax area. General pool: area for children is excellent. Huge spaces for non-swimmers. The animation area is great too but too loud. Pool & general bar: very friendly and excellent service. The choice of drinks is limited. After a week it gets boring. Beach bar: very friendly service, in particular Vincenzo who always served also the children in a very patient way. Beach restaurant: lovely place with banana trees. Good food. Excellent pizza bianca. After a week the choice of foods offered gets boring. Animation for children: very kind young adults work there who are very willing to fulfill all the childrens wishes. They all do their very best to make sure the kids have fun and feel welcome. For non-Italian children the evening show might be a bit late (9.15 pm) but thats italianità. A big problem is lacking foreign language skills as almost no one can speak German or English. That is why only Italian speaking children will mostly be brave enough to stay in Falky-Land on their own. The Falky Dance is organized with great care and it is amazing how Sergej can motivate himself so well to lead the show every evening with the same energy and fun. Main restaurant: excellent service, very kind waitresses and waiters. The chef and all his cooks take care of any special wishes you might have. In particular, pizzaiolo Antonio is doing fabulous work. Any pizza can be ordered and they are all superb. The problem is again the variety of food offered as far as one would expect from a Falkensteiner Hotel. And, unfortunately, the wine and coffee (both machines) offered at the self-service buffet is a disaster. One would think this is impossible in the country of wine and coffee but it is true. The food tastes great, though and there is also a very good choice of gluten-free food. One also feels very safe as all the Corona regulations are carefully observed. Yet, we would have loved to eat pesto, cassata, arancini, ... anything that is more typical southern Italian food, from time to time. The choice of cheese was limited, too and the saddest surprise was the choice of ice-cream which would be no problem in any other country, but in Italy? However, one delicious highlight has to be mentioned, the cannoli offered on some evenings are a must-eat. BTW, the Stralli wine tasting was excellent. Management: extremely friendly and helpful. No matter which problem arises. Rooms: very modern and absolutely nice. As the building is older there are of course always renovations to be made. Our A/C didnt work properly but the janitor fixed it within a day. Really nice. Cleanliness is fine but is not perfect as regards every little corner in the room after some days (they wont pick up stuff to clean the bathroom or the desk, for example, which has its advantages too, though. To wash the floor, of course, they will). Beds are very comfortable. If you are a light sleeper ask for a quiet room as the evening show (until midnight) is very loud. In addition, as the buildings are old, you can hear neighbors rather clearly plus the entrance doors are very loud if guests dont close them carefully. The cleaning staff is very friendly and helpful, too. Sports amenities: upon reception a tessera club has to be paid and one can play a huge choice of sports. Only tennis rackets and bicycles have then to be paid extra. Towel service: very easy and comfortable. Mari who is DJ and animator too, offers very friendly service. Animation: one person to be highlighted is Federica who amazingly can do Zumba and acqua sports also at 37 degrees Celsius. Garden: absolutely fabulous. Marvelous trees and flowers which are well kept. Wellness and gym: very modern equipment. Easy to use. Very friendly staff there, too. General impression: we felt lucky as it was Corona holidays so we enjoyed very much space and oftentimes very few people wherever we were.

I was expecting a lot more from Falkensteiner

This is the email I sent to the management of the Falkensteiner chain. Dear Management, I would like to let you know about the less than pleasant experience I had at the Funimation Garden Calabria Resort, where I stayed with my 12 y.o. daughter from the 13th to the 19th of July. There have been a lot of problems, which I will try to sum up. - No reserved parking lot: when we arrived, we were told that it was up to us to find a place *outside* the resort, otherwise we could park on the side of the main road. - Check in took an hour, and I had only 4 persons before me. After the check in I was told that the room was not ready, so I waited another 30 minutes and then I had to queue up again to get my keycards and bracelets. - No help for carrying the luggage to the room. There are some trolleys, but none were available at the time of our arrival (and we had already dragged the bags from the car, outside the property, to the reception. - On the 16th it was mayhem at the reception: people were queueing up for hours outside the building, at one point I think there were 50 people in queue. Some called even the police. - The room (one of the refurbished ones) was nice, although there is no insulation between rooms so I could clearly hear both my neighbors. - The corridor (I stayed in the house E, "Tramonto") was damp all the time, with pools of water dripping from the ceiling due to the air con, I guess. This was dangerous for those walking in flip flops. - The restaurant was a lot below expectations. The first days it was bearable: we went right at the opening and we could find easily a free spot. But the food was really nothing special, some salads smelled rancid and the fish/meat dishes were "student canteen" quality. The coffee - from an automatic machine - as well as the wine were really low quality. The soft drinks were watered, and apparently nobody could arrange for me to have a bottle of better wine paying an extra. On the 16th the situation went berserk: the management had to divide people in two, houses A-B-C dining at 19:00 and houses D-E-F at 20:30. Frankly, I felt like being in a military camp, not a four star resort. I tried to book at the upside restaurant for an extra, but the maitre could not be found anywhere except at the night at the restaurant itself... and apparently the reastaurant was fully booked until the end of our stay. We decided to go elsewhere, also because it became clear that the restaurant was heavily understaffed so it looked and felt dirty: tables sticky, dishes not taken away, floor sticky as well. Considering that we ate all the time on the bare tables (no cover for them), in the last days the situation became really unpleasant. Besides, nothing typical was ever served except some local cold cuts and cheeses: no local pasta, no fish or meat dishes, no fruits (like prickly pear), just the normal fruits you find everywhere. No fresh juices, only some terribly artificial and sugary. Oh yes, the pizza was excellent. But we could not live on pizza, right? Same remarks go for the beach restaurant, which looked really more as a canteen than a restaurant of any sort. - The pool: beautiful, but a bit worn up, with the blue paint coming off the bottom, and full of pebbles from the beach because the foot washers were not filled at the entrances of the pool area. The sunbeds were all broken, and taken by aggressive guests right at the opening in the morning. Most people left the hotel's towels on them, reserving them for the whole day even if they did not use them for hours and hours. Nobody cared about this issue, the "towels to be left on the beds onfly for one hour then removed"-law was not reinforced by anybody. For three days me and my daughter decided to go to the beach because there was simply no room for us anywhere around the pool. - The animation: I know that some people loved it, but frankly it was too loud and there was no place around the children's pool safe from the loud music and the shouting of the so-called deejay. From 10 to 12 and from 16 to 18:30 it was pure hell. Even in our room, at the far end of house E, you could clearly hear every word of the deejay. I have nothing against music, but it was unnecessarily loud. - COVID-wise, except from making us wear the mask at the restaurant and in the other closed places, no other measures were taken (well, yess, the guardian outside the property took quite rudely our temperature upon arrival). But no distancing anywhere, sunbeds really close to each other around the pool, no distancing at the bars, nothing at all. I saw one guy putting down some X-marks with red scotch tape in front of the main bar on the 18th, the day before our departure. - I had the feeling all the time that the hotel was sold out: too much people everywhere, no way it was at 60% as advertised before our arrival. I have stayed in at least 10 different Falkensteiners and I have never, never experienced anything like this. I am really disappointed, as I expected a lot more after having paid 1860 euros for 6 nights. I feel that you should re-check the people you have entrusted with running the resort in Calabria, because they are making a bad service to your name. For me, Falkensteiner has always been *the* name for hotels, and I have alway appreciated that you have never the feeling to be in a super-crowded place when you stay at your hotels. Well, this time it was different and the number of issues makes me think that the problem is in the way the place is run. The staff was generally friendly but they looked like being under a lot of pressure. Being a huge fan of your hotels, I thought it could be useful to give you an insight of the situation (probably I am not the only one).

    Great holidays in great hotel

Hotel was really very good. Food was ok, drinks very good, based on Italian original alcohol. But there is also tequila, ron, vodka, whiskey and other drinks in offer. Coffe very good. All staff was very nice and kind. Everything was cleaned very fast, we hardly ever had too wait for the table in restaurant. Pool huge, kids had a great time on sliges. We also had the best waitress in the world - Nina Skenderovic. Nina, thank you for these two weeks! Nina was always very kind and helpful. Everyday we received warm "Ciao!" from her and if there were no other clients, we could joke with her and talk. She was always smiling even late afternoo. These holidays would not be the same without you!
