    Inadequate COVID housekeeping

Important takeaway: If you are planning on staying in a hotel, check with the individual hotel property to find out what COVID transmission strategies they are actually practicing on site. We were visiting our son and his family and needed a hotel close by. We were concerned about staying in a hotel with the rapid increase in COVID cases in nearby states, but felt relatively comfortable staying at the Fairfield Inn after reading the statement on their website concerning their sanitizing strategies. They indicate that they are staying abreast of CDC guidelines in implementing more rigorous cleaning procedures aimed at reducing the spread of the virus. What we observed was that, although signs on the doors state that they require mask usage, there were many guests who were not wearing any type of facial coverings. When I spoke with the gentleman at the front desk (who was wearing a mask) he said that, since there is no actual fine in VA for not wearing a mask, they cannot really enforce the mask requirement (which, from a legal standpoint is absolutely untrue. As a private property, they can actually require guests to wear masks- it seemed that the priority was more for having guests than keeping them safe). The hotel had a number of guests, many who seemed to be there for some children's softball/ baseball event. Most of the families we saw with kids who had baseball equipment or uniforms were not wearing masks and were not socially distancing from other baseball families or from other guests (like us). Given the crowds, it was surprising to see no housekeeping doing sanitizing in the entrance and common areas- no cleaning of table tops, elevators buttons, ice machine buttons and such. Many of the baseball guests checked out Sunday and we were able to observe the cleaning strategies used to turn over the vacated rooms on our floor. There were 2 housekeepers and 1 housekeeping supervisor on our floor. NOT ONE OF THEM WAS WEARING A MASK OR PLASTIC GLOVES. They appeared to be cleaning multiple rooms at once (ie, change sheets on all beds, then clean bathrooms, then clean something else type of strategy). With no masks or gloves, going from room to room distributing bed linens and towels seems to create a huge potential for germ transmission. We did not feel safe staying there after seeing the hotel operations and probably will not do so again.

    Coronavirus disaster

Marriott should have on their app when booking rooms if due to the coronavirus there are modifications going on at their motels. I stayed here as this is the motel we always stay at when Im visiting family in Virginia. The indoor pool is closed and I would not have stayed here if I had known that. There is no breakfast buffet. You get a lunch bag with a muffin, Nutri-Grain bar, fruit snacks, and an apple. We had the room thermostat set at 67 and it was still hot in our room.

    Communication Lacking

I really try to not give bad reviews, but in this case I want guests to know ahead of time about the lack of housekeeping (since I didn't). Also, there is no hot breakfast; it's called Grab and Go. You get a breakfast bar, an apple and a yogurt. The apples were very good, though. The problem was the lack of communication regarding housekeeping. The first day they cleaned our room but didn't leave fresh towels. We were told that we'd have to ask for them so the next day I did. They literally dumped the towels on the sink and did not touch our room for housekeeping. I would never dream of treating a guest that way. When I went to the front desk to ask about it (and I was not happy), the desk clerk seemed very unconcerned and said that they were no longer cleaning rooms for extended stay and that there was a letter at the side of the desk saying that. If there's a game changer, and this was, it should be posted in every room and emailed to guests prior to their visit. COVID-19 should not be an excuse for very poor customer service. I would never recommend this hotel.

    Hummmmm

In the room right now and the bed is hard. The hotel is pretty in the inside. No view of anything special. The room is small. Im so disappointed in this room being its Marriott. No breakfast but a few items in a bag. The gentleman at the desk was very nice. This is a first and last visit.
