    Home Away From Home

I stayed in this hotel over 80 nights in 2019. They staff is very friendly, the hotel is very clean, and they treat you like family. The check in staff, Jessica, Kat, and Kiley are wonderful and make sure you have everything you need. They always ask if there is anything they can do to make my stay better. The morning breakfast staff is also very nice. They make sure I have a good start to my day with fresh coffee and food. Russell the GM and Tara the Manager make sure everything stays up to date and runs properly. The indoor spa and pool is a great place to end your day any time of the year. The hotel is wonderful and if you need a place to stay in Abilene, this is the place.

Super staff. Kam deserves special recognition. Helpful and so pleasant. Also, room and furniture were obviously well planned. Made for better layout and made room feel uncrowded. Bathroom also well laid out.

    Anniversary

Our stay was excellent. Everyone were polite and very helpful. From the time we checked in until our check out. Helpful with answering questions, especially Josh at the breakfast bar. The place was clean and well maintained, looking forward to our future stays.

Poorly managed, worn at the edges.

I was in Abilene for a college campus visit with my wife and daughter. Upon arrival the entrance was poorly lit and it was hard to tell if we were at a front or rear entrance. The lobby was deserted when we walked in at approximately 8PM, and there was a sign on the front desk that said "Manager is out assisting another hotel guest", or something to that effect. I waited 5 minutes and finally called the number for the hotel and the manager answered and said she was upstairs helping a guest and would be down in a few minutes. Once I was checked in and entered the elevator, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the floor of the elevator was - a couple of gum wrappers and other pieces of trash on a floor mat that obviously hadn't been vacuumed. Also the signage in the elevator was worn, scratched, faded, etc. e.g. (fire department info sign had been "keyed" and needed to be replaced) - a small thing that would be easy and inexpensive to do. Given that the manager had just used the elevator I know she was aware of it. The next morning, the trash and dirty mat was still there. In the King Suite room, the light dimmer over the TV cabinet didn't work so it was either 100% flood light or no light on that wall. One of the lamps by the bed had a short in it and had to be "jiggled' to get it to work. Electrical hazard? The bathroom sink had a lot of the finish stripped off of it and so it looked like the sink had been used for a paint bucket and not cleaned up at some point. It gave the appearance of being unclean, whether it was or not. The bed was reasonable comfortable and everything functioned otherwise, but the poor management of this hotel would cause me to look elsewhere next time I'm in Abilene.

    Beyond poor customer service

I booked this hotel specifically for the indoor pool. I have a family member that works for Marriott so I was able to get a discounted rate. When I arrive the front desk employee was in a back office with the door shut. I had to ring a bell to get her the even come out to the front. She come out and in the course of checking me in asks what brings me to town. I said a getaway for my kids to swim. Common sense is obviously not her strong suit because at no point did she mention the pool was closed. On my way to the room I see an out of order sign for the pool. I call down and ask when it will be open, and she says it wont, but that I was welcome to call the Hampton Inn next door and ask if I can use their pool. Even though this was just about the dumbest alternative I ever heard I did call the Hampton and was told that no the pool was for their guests. I called the front desk and told her I would have to leave because of the pool being closed. She said ok. I came down and had to ring the bell yet again then gave her the keys and asked if the money they have authorized on my card would go back into my account in a few business days and she said yes. Next day I get the bill showing they had charged me. Now keep in mind I was in their hotel maybe 10 mins. My husband and kids stood in the hall and did not even enter the room. I call the next day and speak to the most unprofessional person I have ever encountered in a hotel before. She tells me that since they offered me an alternative and I utilized the room for over an hour and I had a discounted rate I would have to pay. I said I was in the hotel maybe 10 mins ( I assume that the agent that checked me in got so busy playing on Facebook or chatting with her buddies in the back that she lost track of time and thought I was there an hour). Also, nowhere on your website does it say your pool is closed and your alternative was not only dumb but didn't work anyway. She said take it up with Marriott and hung up on me. I serious hope that this person was not the manager. I cannot even imagine how the employees speak to customers if this is how the manager talks. Absolute disgusting experience.
