Perfect peace within a short hop to City Centre/Arena

This is a delightful hotel of 19 rooms. I stayed here with my husband and my father so we took two rooms and shared a balcony which overlooked a peaceful but busy bend on the Rhine. The near constant passage of barges and boats was an interesting diversion! The rooms were both spotlessly clean and had good sized radiators. My father commented on how spacious his room was and also that the bed was very comfortable. We had two single beds pushed together a not uncommon practice in German hotels. Both rooms had a desk/chest of drawers, armchairs, table, TV, telephone, huge wardrobe, and en- suite with separate WC. Recently refurbished the furniture lines were clean, uncluttered and pleasing, cream paint and wood and all matching. Some art work on the walls contributed to the overall appearance. Our shower was very good, lots of hot water and practical. No tea/coffee making facilities but staff will willingly give you hot water in a flask, a selection of teas, coffee etc. we had booked the breakfast which offered an excellent choice. Cereals, breads, brodchen, cheeses, smoked salmon, boiled eggs, assorted meats, yoghurts, fruit juices (3) fresh fruit salads, honey, apricot conserve, butter or Flora, tea or freshly made coffee. It was buffet style so we served ourselves and refills were plentifully available. The staff were universally helpful, courteous and friendly. There is no concierge service beyond 2200 hours but room keys operate the front door and there is also key code entry. I would highly recommend for couples, single business travellers and anyone visiting one of the numerous Trade Fairs which the city is famous. Taxis are numerous as are trams, and buses in fact the transport system is wonderful, but we also had our car. We used the tram service extensively during our week's stay :-) Worth also recommending highly is the attached Chinese Restaurant the Mayflower, in my experience definitely the BEST Chinese food in Duesseldorf. We ate there on our first evening and were hugely impressed by the variety on offer and the prices. Average dish under 8 and could easily be shared.

Small changes would make a big difference.

This is a very nice hotel, with helpful staff, comfortable rooms and good breakfast. We were made to feel very welcome. It is in a beautiful location on the busy Rhine and close to the U Rail system directly into town. It does however need to do a few things to make it better for guests. These comments are intended to be helpful and constructive, not as a complaint. There is no bar and hence nowhere to relax in the evening after going out for a meal or for those who prefer to stay on site to relax and chat over a beer. There is a formal Chinese restaurant for those wanting to eat in. There are no toilets to use in the hotel other than in the bedrooms - we sat in the hotel reception late afternoon, waiting for a taxi to the airport for over an hour, and found the lack of access to a toilet rather uncomfortable! The member of staff on duty did kindly open a bedroom for us. There is a toilet in the Chinese Restaurant but although it is on site, the access door between Reception and the restaurant is kept locked and only opened when the evening meals begin around 6 pm. Reception was not manned from around 8pm until breakfast which would not usually be a problem if there was a vending machine for snacks and water. Maybe it's because we visited out of season. The bedrooms are warm and comfortable but the bathroom needs upgrading and the towels are in urgent need of replacement. The overall impression is that the hotel and its fittings are a bit tired. Such a shame because with a few changes it could be an an excellent place to stay. The staff are kind and helpful and we were treated very well. We had a great time and liked Düsseldorf very much. Don't be put off staying at this hotel if the lack of a bar doesn't bother you. You will not be disappointed with the welcome, the rooms or the food.

Nice hotel, great location and fantastic host

Two colleagues and I stayed here for 3 nights for the K show. The hotel is located in a prime spot on the Rhine and just a short tram ride to the city centre. The rooms are modern and comfortable and the food and hosts customer service skills are great.
