My University Mate Runs a Lovely Guest House

So...I have this friend I went to the University of Idaho with. He runs a guest house in Namibia. After a 2 week self-drive tour with three other people I didn't know that well, I needed two things: a little peaceful solitude and decent conversation with an old mate. I got that plus so much more. Chris Johnston's place is a marvel. The room with self catering kitchen next to the garden center plus the company of the resident 4 pawed family is just what I needed to restore my spirit before a final week in the road. And it's not just the accommodation that "Wows"...my mate is a talented professional photographer and gemologist. You will not be disappointed with any offering from the gallery, be it a photo or one of the spectacular semi- precious or precious stones on display. So glad I stopped by to visit. Go Vandals!

    Perfect stopover

Loved the attention to detail, wooden clogs on the walls and mosquito net over the beds.Huge trees with seats underneath to rest.Rooms as well as surroundings are neat and clean.A perfect stopover with safe, secure parking.Spacious showers, comfy beds and a kitchenette for selfcatering.Thank you to Esmé for accomodating us for an early breakfast on our way back home and for the chat.Do have a look at their various artwork and gems on display.Recommended.

Great Place to Stay in Omaruru

We stopped here for a night to break up our journey from Swakopmund to Windhoek. This comfortable and quiet place was just what we needed to relax at the end of our 9-day road trip before heading home. Everything was clean and ready for us when we arrived around 2:00pm. The room had character and charming decor. The bed was comfortable. The shower was spacious with great water pressure and hot water. A combined air conditioning/heating unit and extra blankets were provided for temp control. The kitchen and dining area were a nice perk also, and if we'd been there longer we would've made use of it. Parking was spacious and easy (parking with a pick-up truck was difficult at some lodges but not here). There was some confusion on our end about breakfast because we'd booked through Hotels.com and it said it was included, but I suppose it isn't. However, the owner Chris was kind enough to make us breakfast on a whim which we really appreciated. Everything was great and we'd happily recommend this place to others. Thanks for the hospitality!

    Toby

Very nice and friendly reception. Good room, even though it was a little chilly in the room during night in mid July.. I can highly recommend this place! To TripAdvisor: WHY do I have to write 200?? A good review can be short!! Change this demand please!

Best and unique place to stay in Omaruru

Chris, the owner, has put so much attention to the details that make a stay at Evening Shade so comfortable. The beds are perfect, the linens of high quality and the decor is a pleasure. Dont be put off by the outside, its the inside that counts and it charms you. His hospitality is second to none, the morning we had breakfast, he made it himself and it was really delicious. He has homemade bread, in many other places we stayed, we received not very nice basic supermarket bread. He makes an excellent cappuccino- also not a given in Namibia. You will also love viewing his photographs and asking him about his extensive mineral collection.
