    lovely but can be improved

    We have enjoyed staying in this hotel. The service was really nice and everyone - from reception desk to restaurant staff - everyone have tried really hard to answer our queries and help. We've also liked the location - its closer to the airport than the central hotels, very close to a local department store and other shopping areas, lots of nice restaurants around including the restaurant at the hotel, and we've also loved going to the church next door. The rooms and overall décor are new/ clean and very pleasant. the areas for improvements are: - Restaurant: the staff are not familiar with how to serve wine, the entrees and mains didn't always come in that order and staff were not always familiar with the menu; I would suggest some very basic training would suffice in this case - as the people are very very lovely and were trying very hard, just were not sure most of the time what is the right thing to do. The food is absolutely delicious - one of the best we've tried in Russian east cities; - Ordering taxi - we've ordered through the hotel transfer from the airport. The taxi hasn't arrived and we gave up waiting after 30min. The lady at the reception desk that we've contacted has tried to get in touch with the driver but it didn't seem to provide any results. Although its not hotels fault, I would suggest they change the providers. And in Russia it seems cheaper and simpler to get a taxi at the airport - which hotel could have told us as well may be. - Rooms - when ordering I've asked for 1 room with 2 single beds, and one with a queen bed -> we were given 2 rooms with queen bed in each. It wasn't a big problem, but would have been nice to be told upfront - it seemed this request wasn't registered and the hotel couldn't make a chance on that day. The safes in both rooms were locked and we had to wait till the next morning till this is fixed - would have been nice if this was checked prior to us getting into the rooms. Both rooms had toiletries and towels only for 1 person - again, this wasn't a big problem as we simply got extra from housekeeping. The rooms keys were not working - so we had to get new ones. - Spa/ pool - one the main reasons we've booked the hotel was for advertised spa/ pool facilities. Nowhere - including all the travellers reviews and hotel website - it was mentioned that this is actually a paid facility. So here we are looking forward to swimming in the pool after a long flight just to be told that its paid and its actually quite expensive as well. The reception lady said we can come early in the morning for free for an hour - which we did, although were not originally planning to do so. Spa/ pool were very nice but again the information that the entrance is extra charge should be provided to the guests prior to the booking to avoid disappointments. These were small things in isolation, but together they have accumulated to a feeling of frustration in weary travellers which we were - first waiting in the airport for a taxi which never arrived, then after getting to rooms had to go back to the reception 4 times (as we've discovered what was missing / not working) room keys/ room type/ safes/ towels/ and disappointment with the pool. This is unfortunate, as both hotel and staff are lovely.
