Bang average but you can enjoy it

Ok so mixed reviews of this place are justified Bad points; - Outdated and in need of renovating - Poor facilities - Buffet dinner - not only expensive but lacked service offered in other venues - Poorly managed - staff worked hard but were let down by management and lack of investment - Day trippers - gave this place a bad vibe with security hanging around it wasnt relaxing - Normal bungalows looked terrible - Internet never worked and they tried to charge us for using above 256kb - Didnt answer emails before our stay Good points - Overwater bungalows were great. Outdated but awesome - Great snorkelling - EPIC turtles so many of them This place could be AMAZING if they invested. The sea life was fantastic! We enjoyed our time here and spent all our time in our bungalow/snorkeling. The resort was so bad and for how much they charge if they didnt have the overwater bungalows they would be broke. Take your own food and alcohol, stay in the overwater bungalows and dont even bother with the poor resort

    Tired

We had an overwater bungalow, aircon just managed. Room was reasonably spacious and the bed very comfortable. All meals buffet. Very limited selection of wine. Overrun everyday by day trippers, king of spoiled the atmosphere. Snorkeling good due to the fact the resort is in a marine park.

Lacks the personal touch on every level

Stayed for 8 days over New Year on overwater Bungalow. Had been reading reviews for months and most of them pretty accurate to match my own experience. I have travelled extensively in South Pacific, Asia, Europe. Americas and for the price this is not worth more than a 1-2 night stay. Due to the costs of staying here I have decided to provide feedback but I do not wish to receive a response that starts with ''we have forwarded to the appropriate departments'.... don't bother.. - Firstly on arrival I received my welcome letter which started with Dear Mr & Mrs XX - well I am neither a Mr nor married! Its not that hard to read the details of your guests and address a welcome letter accordingly. I met other guests who experienced the same. - When you arrive its likely you are coming off the boat with a hoard of day trippers and although you get a welcome drink you then make your way to reception to queue up. Check-in is relatively simple. Very little English is spoken, no one tells you about the sea snakes that are all over island (read that tip here) nor the cost of facilities, times for meals etc. or Plans for NYE which we were there for.... - our over water bungalow was lovely but no one told us the stairs lift up at night to keep the sea snakes off (I wasn't bothered by snakes but my friend had a phobia). There is a button behind the curtains. - The evening Buffett was extortionately expensive (approx. $110 AUD pp) and exactly the same every night,. We ate in the bar most nights, and I strongly recommend bringing supplies from the mainland. NYE Buffett was not explained to us and we read it off a brochure on the boat in French. It worked out $AUD250 and included 1 cocktail. We had a little party in our bungalow instead. Hotel called our room at 4pm NYE to ask if were coming or NYE Buffet. I told them we hadn't been told anything about it so we would not be joining. - The Pool doesnt open until 9.30am and on one occasion 10am. On Saturdays there is a security guard to keep the day trippers out but they do get in and get busted. The pool bar was opened twice in 8 days despite the hotel being at full capacity!! -Seagulls. There is a note on the table to advise seagulls are problem. However, I was appalled at the amount of food that has to get thrown out by guests who fill their buffet plates and walk off only to have a seagull land in the middle of the plate and start ripping through the bacon.. This could be avoided with each guest being told up front a) dont feed them b) dont leave the table unattended. I saw parents leave their kids at table and it was like attack of the birds. No wonder people end up with fear of birds.. . Kudos to the little honey eater that got into the jam jars each day - still unhyengic but it was entertaining.. - Water sports. You have to pay for everything but your mask and snorkel. I think flippers worked out $10AUD a day and the guy running that shop was very arrogant and rude advising his shop is totally separate from the resort so if I wanted flippers Ï had to rtn every day and pay upfront. I used my reef shoes... - The marine park/ water is lovely and that is why you go there. However, I did see 3 x guests fishing off their over water bungalow and this was appalling. 2 had fishing rods and 1 x hand fishing line. I advised reception and they dealt with immediately but it seems some people dont understand they cant fish in a protected marine park!! - Room was ok except for the lose wiring on hair dryer, No problem just dont stand in the puddle that drips from roof continuously (may be from air con as it wasnt raining) and you wont get a little zap!. I also had to stand on a chair to pull up and down the blind but the spectacular view made up for it. - Overall the natural beauty of this marine park is the reason you come. The expense doesnt justify the service or facilities provided by the resort. I saw what I thought was the manager several times but she never once came over to speak to guests at meals or just to enquire about our stay which is the norm at most other resorts in this price range. There is also a definite divide between the French speaking guests and non-French. Note: I did learn you can change the language on some channels on the TV to English - mainly Disney but given you only get 250mb data per day you may need some entertainment at night. Having said this we did form a bit of a rapport with some of the local staff and I am sure it was in their nature to be accommodating and friendly which probably isnt appreciated by management but was by us! . NB: The overwater bungalows are quiet at night. When we were visiting the migrating shearwaters were nesting around the garden Villas and come out at night. They make a cry like a human baby all night and we met many guests who had poor sleep because of them. As a Twitcher I found them entertaining. I met 1 lady who had one fly out of tree and hit her in head. She got a fright. They seem a very awkward bird and again like the sea/ land snakes this could be explained to guests. I did see some kids chasing a few with sticks (I told them to stop and they did) other kids found joy in watching them for hours. I wouldnt return. Shame as the resort could be so much more...

    Not worth it

We spent three nights here and sadly- everything was a miss. Ive listed a few elements below, but just skip the read and go to Moorea. The overwater bungalows are expensive and very very outdated. The ferry only runs at a few (mostly inconvenient times from the mainland) The lunch was expensive and buffet only so only one other place to eat. The decks are damaged and need repair The pool bar only opens certain days and also doesnt serve a lot of drinks or cocktails only the main bar does. Seasnakes are everywhere. They out number the fish 5:1. wildlife is a massive miss, no fish, no coral and no decent snorkelling. The price you pay for general things is more than Tahiti, which makes it a no brainer to avoid.

Food options not much/ Additional surcharge

Everything was lovely apart of the food option. We stayed 4days, had pretty much same buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the stay. No alacart menu was available, there was a snack menu which was only available for limited hours in the evening. NO FOOD available at all if you miss out 2pm lunch, next available food would be only after 5:30pm. So you need to keep that in mind while youre snorkeling or kayaking in the water. And yes being on an island everything was expensive.I would suggest all to BYO, take your own bottle of wine/spirits, they provide ice and glasses. And yes rent the pocket wifi from the airport. That would be lot cheaper. As the resort only provides very limited free wifi (250mb) per room per day, then rest you have to buy. Also if you decide to add the bill to your room there is a surcharge on that which they dont tell you. So ask in advance before adding any bills to your room. Hope this information is helpful for all travellers!!
