Surprisingly good, will recommend...The name sounds abit corny initially, but apparently in the newly built Ordos city, all the present 5 star hotels are local names. There are some designated sites / ongoing construction areas in town where Hilton and some other international chain hotels are being built. I was told by my Singaporean travel agent that this is currently the best they have. It is really quite a nice modern hotel. The balcony is has 2 layers of glass, quite far apart from each other - likely for protection against the famous April sandstorms. Rooms are new and very clean. Massage spas are located in the building next to the hotel. There is a large nice shopping complex opposite the hotel and although nicely built, sits shut and unoccupied. The park and the unoccupied shopping complex is brightly lit at night, offering a wonderful view. Do take a walk there at night. There is a smaller and older basement shopping complex next to the hotel, and this is quite a good place to shop for souvenirs.

Wonderful HotelI travel a lot in China and found that this hotel is excellent. Nice big clean and quiet rooms, wonderful banquet rooms and very tasty food. The bath room had a nice spacious shower, glass walls and big sink area. I wish I had taken more pictures. However you will not be disappointed with this hotel!

A good hotel in a city not used to foreign visitorsJust spent six nights in this hotel and I'm basically satisfied. The Tieniu is in the middle of the downtown area, there's a shopping mall very close by and a large and rather beautiful park across the road. The hotel itself is modern and clean. The staff were very friendly. My room was spacious and the bathroom quite nice. Although this was a non-smoking room (and the smell was quite fresh), there were a number of cigarette burns on the wall-to-wall carpet (this may be expected in China). One complaint I do have is that both the room and the bathroom were quite dimly lit, so it was difficult to read in the room. The small spotlights above the bed did not help. Neither was I able to figure out how the A/C worked. Luckily you could open the windows. As my room was on the 9th floor (9025), the view was nice overlooking the park, which has a large pond with a fountain sprouting high and lit with different colored lights at night. It didn't bother me at all (actually quite the contrary), but there was loud music in the park until 9:30 pm (usually Western classical or entertainment); in the morning, they pumped up beats presumably to invigorate the populace. One difficulty was that almost nobody on the staff (including the reception) had even a rudimentary knowledge of English. Even words like "food" or "bar" were not understood. Which leads me to the next issue: there is no bar in the hotel. The restaurants ostensibly close at 9:30 pm but when I rushed into the Chinese restaurant one evening at little before 9:00, they had already closed and the place was dark. Luckily the room service worked after that. So one retires early into the room, which is just as well because breakfast (a good hot buffet of mostly Chinese food) is served from 6:00 to 8:30 am (which may be a problem especially as many flights arrive late in the evening; no sleeping in if you wish to have breakfast). Nor was there a gym or spa, which is curious as these are prominently displayed on the website and even advertised on the hotel TV. When I asked the receptionist (they fetched one who would at least understand my question), she responded: "No spa. Next week." This could mean many things, like, perhaps the spa was just being built and the adverts were ahead of time; or perhaps it was being renovated; or maybe it would be open next week after my departure (i.e., no foreigners allowed).

Gym is excellentThis hotel has an awesome gym at the rear of the building. Rooms are fine. Food is not great, staff is slow and not knowledgeable ( to the point of being unhelpful) and the overall atmosphere is pretty poor. I would only stay here for the gym.
