"A hotel in a sleepy village"Nice hotel spread over several buildings. Our room was medium size and very comfortable, but had a tiny bathroom. There is no lift and some people might have a problem having to climb stairs with baggage. The Wi-Fi signal was very weak and not dependable. Breakfast was very good.

Comfortable hotel with a few criticismsOur room was quite spacious and very comfortable. Good wifi and nice balcony overlooking the Elbe. No lift, so a bit of a problem with baggage, especially on the top floor. The dining room was not open so we ate dinner at a nearby guesthouse. Breakfast quite good., Our main criticisms were the attitude of the receptionists. When we arrived, admittedly just after 11am, we were told we couldn't get into our room till, after 2pm,,even though it was pretty evident there were few other guests. When we said we would go into Bad Schandau for a few hours, the first receptionist said nothing about the free ferry pass for hotel guests. When we came back after 2pm, the other receptionist talked on the phone for at least 10 minutes while we waited to check in. Annoying and unprofessional!

Close to a disasterThis must one of the worst hotels we ever stayed in. From the moment we entered the hotel, things started of bad. The lady in the reception did not even look up, or said hallo. We never experienced such a rude behavior before. While checking us in, she talked on the phone, and paid on on attention what so ever. Our room was on the 3.floor, there is no lift, and they do not offer any help with the luggage. Our room was of an OK size, and clean - this is the practically the only positive thing about the hotel . In the room, the are no lampshades, the light bulbs just sit directly in the sealing - not very cozy. The bathroom was very small, and had a angled wall, so you could almost not use the toilet. The only light was a small bulb above the sink. The shower had a very dark shower curtain, this ment that we had to shower in almost total darkness. The hotel is right next to the railway, so there is a lot of noise from the trains. We ate in the restaurant, and the food was ok. - the restaurant it self was more like a train station cafeteria, than a restaurant, it must be one of the least cozy places we ever ate in. We had to wait a very long time to get our food though. The 2 waiter were polite, and did their best. For some very strange reason you can not get the bill on your room - despite we had to go to the reception to use the card machine. During this the receptionist was once again quite rude. We will never stay here again, or recommend any one else doing so.

Pleasant 10 night stayStayed here for 10 nights as part of a Ramblers holiday, we were walking the Malerweg and the hotel proved a good base for this part of the holiday. Our room was 518 which was situated in the Villa Carolahohe a couple of minutes walk from the main hotel building. It was a lovely clean spacious room on the first floor of the villa. As well as a bedroom and en suite bathroom (toilet, shower, bidet and two washbasins) we had a sitting room and a balcony. With its elevated position we had lovely views from the balcony of the surrounding countryside and the River Elbe. The rooms don't have air conditioning but even though the temperatures hit 30 degrees C during our stay our room stayed relatively cool. If you are a light sleeper you may require earplugs as the railway line runs close to the hotel and trains run through the night. Breakfast was very enjoyable. Served in a light airy room the breakfast buffet had a good choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, cheeses and hams, various breads, jam and honey. There were boiled eggs and a couple of hot items usually sausage and scrambled eggs. On most days Bircher Muesli was available. Juices were available, coffee pots were put on the tables and there was a choice of teas available. The evening meals were not as good as the breakfasts, for ourselves some were better than others. Three meals were served in Pension zur Eiche which is owned by the hotel, a set menu which was waitress served and the standard was good. Seven nights were a buffet meal served in the Vault. Soup was consistently of a good standard ( but not always vegetarian), salad, about 4 main courses and desserts. Often, but not every night there was a fish dish. The buffet food was not too inspiring if you are a vegetarian. A lot of the main courses were meat based especially pork. You pay for your drinks as you go. The staff were friendly and helpful. You are given a guest card which gives you free journeys on the local ferries and buses and discount to various attractions. There is a small shop in the village which sells a small selection of food. The nearest supermarket is across the river in Bad Schandau served by an hourly ferry. Krippen is a lovely quiet vilage and a good base for the Malerweg. The hotel is ony a ten to fifteen minute walk to the railway station and there are local ferry and bus services.

Comfortable hotel with excellent breakfastThe Erbgericht seems quite a sprawling establishment, with an annexe as well as the main building, a vaulted cellar bar across the courtyard, a linked restaurant, Pension zur Eiche, 100m away and secure bike storage hidden behind another building across the street. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the railway tracks and although the trains are fairly regular we didn't find that a problem. (The unsightly full ashtray on the balcony table should really have been dealt with by housekeeping though.) We ate at the Pension in the evening, which we found very good. The vegetarian offer of cheesy dumplings was slightly on the heavy side but the duo of lightly battered zander and cod on a salad with excellent roast potatoes was a winner. Back at the main hotel in the morning the breakfast room was busy with walking groups but the well-laid out spread was kept replenished and the plentiful staff made sure that every table got its flask of coffee. We had used the free pass to go over to Bad Schandau in the afternoon, although since there's a tourist tax on checkout, I guess you pay for it indirectly.
