Very goodThis really is one of the best hotels in Xian. Comortable and elegant, located in the very centre of this beautiful city. It deserves its 4 stars: spacy rooms, comortable beds, LCD TV-set and silent air-condition. Large bathrooms with impeccable white towels, and last but not least: a superb restaurant, where you can choose between Chinese cuisine or European one. This really is the place to rest after visiting Terracotta Army.

Good value hotelWe encountered a few problems on our arrival at this hotel. They could not find our prepaid booking although they had to acknowledge it when we produced the copy of our voucher; they asked for a 2,0000 RMB deposit which we refused to pay and they eventually settled for 200 RMB; the room was very hot but they said the airconditioning could not be turned on until June but they did eventually supply us with a fan; we were given a standard room with a smelly bathroom which we asked to be changed as we had booked a deluxe. After some discussion they agreed to do so if we signed a chit saying we had been given a free upgrade! When these things had been solved (not easily) we stayed here for 5 nights and it was quite a good hotel. The rooms are a good size and quite comfortable if the bed is the usual Chinese hard bed. There is a kettle, hairdryer and TV (all Chinese) and a free wired internet connection. Unfortunately none of the staff speak much English and so could not help with the arrangements we had to make to visit the Terracotta Warriors and the trains we had to book. It is an easy bus ride (1RMB) into the centre of town where we went to eat each day as the advertised Western Restaurant in the hotel did not exist.

Too dirty and unpleasant staff attitudeAlthough the breakfast was excellent and the dining room staff were willing to extend the time for eating for our delayed group, this is were any positivity in their attitude ended. The hotel room was not very clean, the dirty sheets and lots of black hairs on the mattress were particularly disturbing. This four-star hotel failed to provide us with toilet paper. Although the room was very big, it did not make up for these basic flaws. And after all this, during checkout the reception staff (who did not speak any English at all and we had to use a translator) blamed part of our group for making one towel dirty,,,, from washing their hair?? In short, not pleasant and terrible value-for-money.

Less than ExpectedUpon arrival to check in, the common area appears to be elegant and adorned with many fine sculptures and fountains. We were assigned a corner room and even after several hours we couldnt cool the room down, with our presence it climbed to 25c and remained there overnight. With the assistance of our tour guide it was determined that the government rules prohibit use of AC until the temperature reaches 26c, they offered us a fan which was accepted. Ensure you dont get the corner rooms (building is triangular) as the windows are narrow, tall and DONT open, the body of the building we noticed had awning windows for ventilation. Our private tour package had us arrive here from an elegant hotel in Beijing and then disappointment set in, there is no room fridge or security safe, the carpets are more than dirty, the wardrobe is half blocked by the desk, and there is NO bath tub for my wife. The bed is clean and firmer than we are used to, its equipped with a kettle with tea bags and cups, 2 robes, 2 pairs of disposable slippers (yeah, used them), an old CRT TV with only one English channel (CCTV News) and lousy reception. Bring an expired card (Coffee or Subway) for the slot near the door to keep the power on if required (external fan). The hotel and surrounding area predominately don't speak English, the location is favoured by Chinese business persons as nearby are several wholesale clothing warehouses. The front desk personnel don't speak either, it took 7 people on the phone to order ice, I got our guide to write it down and specified a bucket of ice (not a bowl). Please beware the elevator doors close at a velocity of 0 to 12 kph in 10.8 nanoseconds, we got hit while entering several times. The breakfast is predominately Chinese with several varieties of congee, a noodle station prepared on request with many hot sauces and spicy broths. Fried noodles, fried rice, toast station, fried and hard boiled eggs, cold and hot vegetables, sliced meats, cold Chinese type salads, sausage, banana bread, fresh fruit and great juices. Funny thing is there were no knives or forks on display, only chop sticks visible, good thing my wife brought a fork from home. The area is rather run down and the immediate block to the east (left) has a boarded up building which is a bit ugly, we purchased beer a block after that and also across the street. There are several restaurants directly across the street, we ate at the one on the corner, pictures and English titles on the menu will assist. Many funky items are on the menu that I won`t attempt even being of Chinese decent. Bring a fork if required here and ensure you get the beer cold as in the fall-winter they drink it room temperature. Once the language issue at the hotel is resolved, the remedy is extremely prompt, there is always an assistant manager available at a specified desk, fantastic service is noted. This a decent hotel overall and could use a renovation in our particular room, other reviewers had more updated accommodations but we only can rate our experience as a 3.

Comfortable hotelStayed in this hotel for 5D4N. Hotel is nice, comfortable and clean. Housekeeping differs depending on which staff cleaned the room on that day. Overall, it's fine. Loved the breakfast, catered more Chinese food but every morning different varieties so looking forward to their breakfast every morning. They do have cereals, cakes and bread too. Only downside, no aircon as we stay in hotel in April. Luckily weather is cooling so opened window slightly for cool air to come in. Overall it's a comfortable stay, don't mind staying in this hotel again if visit Xi'an. However, my friends' room are smelly with strong cigarette smell , hence not very pleasant for them. Thus it really depends on the rooms u stay in.
