Heartwarming, friendly & gracious hostAt the price point of Y3k per pax, this place is a gem! Though the building is old, the toilets & shower are modern & functions perfectly. The host Ms. Motoko has made the place very homely with her 2 lovely children & made the extra effort to find us a place to park our car for free (parking charges are high in Otaru). Glad that we transited through this place on our journey around Hokkaido.

full of warmththis place is indeed a fantastic budget option for solo traveler like me with its 3kY per night. Clean, good Wi-Fi, good host, warm & friendly. It is quite far (20 mins walking) from the Otaru Station. But, it's not an issue. You can take bus no.9 from Otaru Station. The bus will announce the next bus stop in Japanese. When you hear it announcing "Shinsenbashi or Senshinbashi (something like that)" twice, ring the bell & bus will stop at bus stop that is in front of 7 Eleven. You can either ask the people inside 7E or just use the public phone outside 7E to call Motoko. Motoko is an exceptional host that you may need before you want to start your other trips in Hokkaido since she has very good English communication. Her 2 charming kids will never bore you out! I love the fact that i can walk up the hill about 20 mins to Mt. Tenguyama. I would definitely love to stay there again if I go to Otaru again.

Perfect for backpackers ONLYIt felt like a refugee camp. This place is only suitable for smaller group, maybe 1-2 people in total, although there are enough beds for 10 plus 1 cushion made sofa which could turn into a bed. The facilities available at this place isn't good enough to take 11 people, for example, only 1 washroom for male and 1 washroom for female. You are sharing these with the owners of the house. We went as a big group with 9 people. This place is not for big groups of people, you have to literally line up to shower. (one at a time). We arrived very late that day so only 2 people actually took a shower, if we were to line up, the last person would come out at like 3AM. The stairs are horrible, quite steep, narrow and they felt dangerous if you have big pieces of luggage. You are not allowed to roll your luggage. One of the bunk beds had a large set of wires next to it, making it quite dangerous. The bunk beds in the female area are closely placed together, making this place lack of fresh air. Things like towels, tooth brush, etc. are for extra. Although this is completely understandable since the price is so low. I don't have too much of a problem with this place if they only take on a couple of people only. If you have a big group, don't go there.

So heartwarmingThank you so much for the care and smiles you've given us :) It was warm and comfortable. And the hosts were the friendliest! We enjoyed chatting and sharing time with them so much. Everything was clean and many informations were given to us. Even during a snowstorm, it is not far from the center, station, and park. The snow resort Tenguyama is 15-20 minutes walk, or 5 minutes by bus. It is possible to eat nearby; the convenience store and post office are really close.

Don't stay here!!!Found 3000 yen per night rather expensive. 30 minute walk from the JR station and didn't feel welcome at all. The owner wasn't very friendly to me and her English was very poor. Actually the place is more the owners home then a hostel. Couldn't use the kitchen, because she occupied it with her two little children. Couldn't relax because I had to listen to children screaming. The bed was very uncomfortable and the bedding was very old. Only one shower behind the kitchen which was in a terrible condition. The female dorm was tiny and very old fashion. No space for your luggage and no lockers. Wouldn't recommend to spend a night here. Would love to give 0 points ;-(
