    Rockstar

I stayed here for a work conference about 6 months ago and Tanner at the front desk honestly reminded me of exactly how management and service are genuinely delivered. I returned to Austin today and happen to see the hotel off the side of the road and when I came in he was here at the desk, I didn't have intentions to stay but just speaking to him definitely influenced my decision to book a room! Will definitely return because of this man alone, and the nice rooms. Thank you Tanner! You're a Rockstar!

Saved me on a last minute reservation

I had a reservation at the wyndam garden and when i got there the hotel was closed. I had stayed at the Embassy suites a few weeks before so i called hotel directly. They got me a room and let me check in early. They turned my day around

They have remodeled but they still have latent electrical risks

Ive stayed with this place multiple times over multiple years, so theres nothing terribly wrong with it or I wont be back. I like the room size and the amenities, and I am quite fond of my Hhonors points and free things to come. This visit brought me a new gadget where I check in when Im still in DFW, and when I drive up the keys are on the desk. Strangely, the desk agent didnt ask for a photo ID, and just handed me my key cards which delighted me. There was an unexpected level of trust and confidence in the process, and its my guess he probably should have asked for my ID, but I refuse to gripe about it. I rarely have any problems here, but there were a few things they could do better. Walking out for a smoke on Thursday morning at 7:00 yielded a trash can overflowing onto the sidewalk and broken glass everywhere from a fallen light bulb. When I told the desk about it, they got rid of it quickly. But, when I told the desk I was having trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi, she told me that too many people were using the routers and they were crashing. Somehow, I doubt thats really true, but I expected to offering me some help rather than making excuses like she didnt give a flip. She could have told me they didnt have enough beds for the rooms they have to rent and it would have been equally well received. Ive got a laptop that connects and a cell phone that doesnt, and Its hard to believe that routers crashing or not having enough ports is causing this. If you dont have enough connections for every guest 1) why hasnt it been fixed, and 2) Isnt this a Hilton property where Im paying extra to have this stuff working? I can get answers like that from Super 8 for half this much. I can almost claim I remember them building this building, but by today it would be stretching the truth. I was shocked and disturbed when I pushed the door to finding a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breaker panel behind the door. These panels have been known to start fires for many years, and every one of them should be removed and destroyed check the internet if theres any doubt. They have multiple problems such as no shunt trip; bus bars burning; breakers that simply refuse to shut the power off, and a host of other things leaving the panel not salvageable and an extreme risk of fire anywhere one is found in service. And, even more ironic is the label inside of it saying use copper or aluminum wire. If someone owns a property with these breakers hooked to aluminum wire its just a matter of time until something goes wrong thats going to set something on fire. They were made until 1981, and I thought this building was newer than this, but wherever one may go, if you have Federal Pacific circuit breakers you are NOT protected from electric short, and you may as well be connected straight to the utility company. Being this company has its own building engineers, its sort of inexcusable to keep them and put every guest staying here at risk. Outside of the south east door is good quality pathway lighting affixed to real conduit with real outlet boxes. It should be a permanent installation and devoid of any risks. When I see things such as outlet boxes with exposed wiring, of course Im going to wonder if that is live, or if its Memorex. Electric distribution wire was sticking up out of the ground where a landscape light once was, and it was exposed. Without these Stab-Lok panels there would be nothing to worry about because a shorted circuit will trip a breaker. With Federal Pacific you get no such assurances, and a kiddo touching it or any number of other unforeseen surprises a guest could be electrocuted in an instant. I feel very sure that if the fire code people saw this they would insist it be remedied, or hide it.

    Our family says 3.5 Stars

This hotel has been here a long time, so if you book it, keep that in mind. The lobby area is very pretty, we loved the glass elevator and being able to see the doors to all the rooms. Our room was very clean and spacious. We had a king bed in one room and a pull-out couch in the other, both with TVs. The bathroom was very, very small. It was so small that you had to stand between the toilet and the counter to open and close the door. The ceiling was terribly low, I think it would cause a problem for anyone over 5 foot 10. The first time we closed the door, it got stuck and we realized that half of the door was getting stuck on the frame and pulling the door apart. Also, the ceiling was coming down, as you can see in the picture. The shower door was also tricky to get closed, it was on a track and kept wanting to roll open. Additionally, the handle to turn the shower on slowly kept moving to the downward position and at that point the water was hot like fire. I told the front desk about the bathroom door and they offered to move us to another room but it wasnt really an issue and due to Covid, I just didnt want to switch or have someone come to our room to look at it. There were no trash bags in our room so we had to go get some. We also had to go get more coffee and towels, since housekeeping wasnt coming in due to Covid protocols. Since they couldnt serve breakfast, we were able to go down and ask the front desk for boxed breakfasts. That was a really nice touch and we appreciated it. We probably would not choose to stay here again due to the issues with the bathroom and the proximity to the homeless on I35, which is in no way the hotels fault but it did make us feel less safe.
