  Tranquility and Relaxing

  Great place to unwind and recenter, the pools/grotto/spa/walks around the prooerty. The resort was full and yet we felt like we were the only ones there. It is such a peaceful place. The staff never seemed to mind going the extra mile, if it was required and made us feel like we were the only ones they were working with. Ask questions there are many ways to make your stay and dollar stretch while you relax. The town is adorable with many things to do.

  Okay Get Away

  The spa was the reason this is getting an average rating.  If it were not for the spa service, this would have received a poor grade.   We choose to stay at The Elms because of the great reviews we heard from friends and family about the Spa but did not realize the rooms and food were not up to par for what they charge.  The restaurant was well below average on food quality.  The menu was a reduced menu due to COVID, and you would anticipate the food would be excellent.  My wife ordered the filet, and I order the ribeye to be cooked at medium-rare.  They both came out almost well done.  The dessert they gave us was supposed to be a molten lave cake, and it was more of a chocolate bundt cake.  Nothing is lava about a bundt cake.  It was also supposed to be served with vanilla bean ice cream, and it was just plain vanilla ice cream.  Not a big deal, but when your menu says something, you expect it to be what's on the menu.   The gym was never cleaned or, what I should say properly clean.  Moving around the benches, you would find dust bunnies everywherefingerprints on the mirrors and who knows if the gym equipment was ever wiped down.   The hotel's best thing was the ambiance because it is a really cool old hotel and has a great story behind it, but that's about it.  We stayed in the King Suite in room 525, and the HVAC vent is almost directly above where you sleep at.  So, when the heat kicks on, it sounds like a small jet engine starting the engines.  This happened every hour to an hour and a half.  So, let's say sleeping was not the greatestthe beds were awesome as you are sleeping on a Tempurpedic mattress. The spa service is amazing though.  So, if we were to do it all over again, we would just go up for massages and take advantage of the grotto.   The town itself is a great little town and has a lot of history behind it and great boutique restaurants to try.

  Dissatisfied

  Went for a girls trip and stayed in a suite with two queen beds. Bathroom was dirty and had hair in the shower from previous occupant. One of the beds was so sunken in the middle that my friend and I ended up sleeping on the couch. The food was okay. We had scheduled spa services and were very uncomfortable with the amount of people allowed in the grotto at one time so we were not able to enjoy that service. Went to the quiet room to wait and there were 12 people, not enough loungers and some were not wearing masks. Overall the trip was a disappointment.

  Relaxing retreat

  I suggest you ask at the front desk for extra amenities like robes, slippers and real wine glasse. the hotel has them but they are not automatically provided. I suspect this is because of the expected clientele but they are more than willing to provide the extras to those who appreciate them and will respect the accommodations.

  Great getaway!

  We checked in on a Tuesday and left Thursday morning. The check-in was very smooth and the room was fantastic. Breakfast and dinner in the hotel was very good. Service was exceptional. Spa treatments Wednesday afternoon. Very relaxing. Each and every staff member we had personal contact with was very helpful and made our short stay more enjoyable. Obviously the management knows how to manage staff and efficiently run a historic hotel and spa. We will be back many times!
