  Wonderful stay for wedding

  We stayed here for a family wedding - the venue was spectacular for the ceremony + reception and the couple were able to get some amazing photos through a photographer recommended by the venue. The rooms are quite old, but clean and comfortable. The spa suites on the ground floor are very spacious. I was pleased that the shower pressure was good despite the old-looking fixtures! The staff (especially at reception) were exceptionally helpful in organising the wedding and the onslaught of guests. We had some minor problems with the buffet breakfast the next day (even though it was organised in advance) ... They seemed quite understaffed with only one cook and one server (who didn't usually do serving) for 40+ people. There weren't enough tables set, some items ran out, and others just couldn't be re-cooked fast enough. The staff did the best they could though.

  The wedding reception area is great, as for the rest, forget it.

  If you stay here, don't bother ordering breakfast, it never arrives. Reception doesn't open until 9:00 and have a couldn't care less attitude. Maintenance and general up keep in the rooms leaves a lot to be desired. There re no screens on the windows so you have to keep them closed. Our room had a wonderful view of a brick wall and back alley.

  Spacious and comfortable for overnight

  A large room with 4 poster bed plus a single. Bathroom with a huge spa and spa soap included. Perfect for a stay overnight. There is no office open after 5pm so arrangements for after hours arrival were in place.

  Terrible customer service

  I had reason to book some accommodation at this place.As I booked for over 3 weeks the total cost was around $3.5K. Immediately after booking, they withdrew 50% ($1.700) from my account. Subsequently due to losing the job I was travelling for, I contacted these people and advised that I needed to cancel. I was able to cancel but they withheld ALL my deposit. Over weeks I attempted many, many times to speak to the manager. Left messages, emails and even calling there but to no avail the manager would not speak to me. I tried to reason with the other staff but they advised the manager flatly refused to refund even a part of the deposit. Moral here is don't stay here as they are rude and arrogant. Greedy also springs to mind. It cost them nothing to take my booking but to keep all that money for nothing. Understandably, I am not impressed. Never stay here!!!!

  Comfortable, spacious and clean

  Yes, the room is a little dated but it's very well priced so not an issue. Booked the room via booking.com ... but first rang the lodge to see if they could match the rate so they'd get all the income. However, they wouldn't ... go figure. Stayed five nights at the last minute (husband suddenly in hospital). No weddings on so parking was easy. Gardens are quite lovely and at night they're very pretty with fairy lights. I was really comfortable, felt safe, had plenty of space to move and put my gear, car park right outside, quiet spot (amazingly) and good snoozy bed. Loved being able to watch TV from a sofa (rather than a bed) and I used the desk to draw or use my laptop. Also had a spacious bench to make breakfast or snacks. Getting in and out of the motel onto the main road was easy (school hols so roads are much less crowded). It's a solid half hour walk to the nearest train station and a pleasant (although somewhat noisy) stroll. There's also a bus along Middleborough Rd going to Box Hill station which would be worth looking at . However I worked out where to park close by Laburnum station without paying, so was relatively easy to get into the city and back without needing to take out a parking mortgage. Reception staff pleasant. Didn't use breakfast facilities, air conditioning or wifi, not that I was provided with a password. Every time I needed access, it was after reception closed so gave up. Definitely stay here again when we need accommodation in the east. Was very happy. Keep your expectations realistic and you'll be fine.
