  lovely welcome and stay,lovely clean, modern and comfortable room in coach house would highly recommend close to local bars and city centre thanks for great stay sorry didn't have time to sample restaurant

  Like visiting your family

  I stayed in Elgano with a friend when we went to watch Bangladesh play England in the Cricket World Cup on June 8th 2019. The hotel literally backs onto Sophia Gardens. We selected Elgano precisely because it was that close and I have bad knees so I do not want to walk far. We couldn't have made a better decision, serendipity though it was. The small hotel does not have a lift but someone from the staff carried my bag upstairs. The rooms were very nice - especially in comparison with the hotel we stayed near the Oval cricket ground in London. The bathrooms were clean and modern, the beds were perfect. But what really will stay in my mind forever is the friendliness of the staff. Staring with Simona at the top, to the chef, the waiters at the restaurant and rest of them were absolutely amazing. I have seldom felt more at home at a hotel. And the restaurant was fabulous - I had a simple bowl of pasts but could not resist the tiramisu. Then I saw Giuseppe the waiter walk by carrying a tray for another table and I asked if that was Limoncello. "Yes", said he, "want one"? Of course said I. He brought one and as he placed it on my table, he said "compliments of the house". Wonderful touch. And I would have written this review even without the limoncello! Grazie Mille,Simona!

  Disappointed but ok

  Wanted to find a local b&b rather than usual chain hotel and so we did. Plus side.... staff were good, needed heater as room was cold and they sorted and turned on heating and quick with request for extra towel . And free wifi. But we had hoped for a bijou, smarter style. Photos here are deceptive. We had room 5 and 6. Both very small, dark and dated. Room 6... door to ensuite kept sticking and had mirror stuck on outside so rattled loudly when opening and closing, not good in the middle of the night. Water would not drain out of sink. Tiny wall mounted tv...says it all in terms of room size. Colour scheme made it look dark and old. Dark brown bare walls, dark red carpet. Hardly any room to move around in room. Breakfast...stood for a while till staff arrived. Cooked food was ok. Hot water jug and sachets of instant coffee...shame not even decent coffee served. Parking...as we booked direct we had a space but nightmare trying to get our car into the tiny space available through narrow lane and narrow gate. So a place to sleep(not in room 5 as road facing). a quick breakfast and exit. See why you pay in full on arrival. Not good value at all for what we were charged. Looks like it will be a chain hotel for any future visits to Cardiff for us.

  Doesn't match up to the quality of the restaurant

  I spent two nights here after eating excellent evening meals on previous visits to Cardiff. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable enough. The staff seemed unhappy - maybe tired after working late. Breakfast is supposed be served at 8am but the chef didn't arrive at that time on the first day so I had to miss breakfast. On the second day she arrived at 8:20. It was disappointing to be fobbed off with instant coffee in an Italian restaurant, while I saw a staff member making himself a nice espresso. I won't be returning.

  Hotel ok but wont return

  I booked on here through their website and they took a deposit and I was to pay the rest when I got there. Was all difficult to do as Manager was not in, staff called him as no one else could take payment and he agreed that what cash I had on me would do although a couple of quid short. I brought my Granddaughter back In the evening to have a coke in the bar/restaurant and was made to feel that it was inconvenient and after much huffing and puffing, we got a drink. I think it is mainly a restaurant and that the rooms are a sideline. The room was nice but basic and was warm, clean and comfortable. I had the English breakfast which I didnt enjoy at all. Second time here as I thought I would give them a chance but wont return and found another place nearby which is fabulous.
