Unprofessional conduct from letting agentMyself and four other friends booked to stay in an apartment in Dalry Gait for two nights. We stayed in building number 5. When checking in at the office, we were asked to pay a deposit of 100 pounds. We handed this over without hesitation. We asked the letting agent for a late check out, he refused saying that they were already booked out. He asked us to meet us back at the office at 10 am the morning we were checking out to return the keys and collect our deposit. However, on the morning of checking out there was loud banging on the front door of the apartment starting at twenty to ten. At approximately ten to ten the letting agent let himself into the apartment where he met two sleeping girls. He woke the girls up and told them it was time to go. Following this he left and waited for the rest of us to wake and pack up our last few bits. He then returned inside and called is to a room, and showed us a lamp that he claimed was broken as it would not switch on. We had not used the lamp. He informed us he was taking 30pound out of our deposit for the lamp. I asked to take the lamp and was refused, I was told if I took the lamp he would take the 100 deposit. In my opinion this lamp was a scam and was already broken. Also the fact the male letting agent entered the apartment, where four young women were sleeping was extremely inappropriate. The apartment and location was very good and we were happy with that. However, the unprofessional conduct of the letting agent would prevent me from staying there again, or recommending it.

Apartment at Annandale StreetWe stayed here last year July, and will use again when we next visit Edinburgh. The apartment at Annandale Street has spacious rooms in which I was quite surprised. Very clean and well equipped. Nice comfortable beds - 2 doubles, 2 singles (in twin room) and 2 sofa beds in the lounge. There's an extra folding bed as well in the master bedroom hidden in the cupboard. Super fast wifi was free which was always a plus. Plenty of clean towels were provided, as well as coffee, tea, sugar, dishwashing tablets/liquid etc. Parking was also free at the rear. It's located in a quiet area within walking distance to St James Shopping Centre and OMNi where loads of nice restaurants can be found. Tesco Express and Coop were also close by for stocking up little essentials like bread and milk. The Majestic Bus Tour also passed through McDonald Road next to Annandale Street. Canon Hill and Waverley station were within easy reach. No major problem, although the shower riser in the en suite kept sliding down. And there's one key for the back door that wouldn't work.

Could do better - £'s okayWe went during Scottish term time, therefore made a significant saving, as their school terms sometimes differ form England. We found the appt. spacious and the Pearl appt. staff very helpful. These appts. are a short walk from Haymarket train station, from which you can get frequent trains to Waverly Bridge station in central Edinburgh.(Bus tours run from here) There are numerous shops and take-aways very close by. However, we were disappointed by the poor cleanliness of the appt. and it's obvious need for some TLC. There was also a peculiar and unpleasant smell in the stairway. Showers were okay and sound insulation between flats seemed good as we didn't here any noise from other guests. Overall, we would rate this appt. as average; but with a bit more attention to detail, it could be very good.

Good and BadThe apartments were clean, spacious and overall good value for money. They were in a good location which had a variety of shops/ cafes/ restaurants on the door step, also around a 5 minute taxi ride to get more central. The staff were friendly on check in and made us feel welcome. The beds were really uncomfortable in all of the bedrooms, this left members of the party feeling very stiff and uncomfortable when getting out of bed in a morning. There was a balcony in one of the apartments however this felt very dangerous and unsafe to use as the wooden floor was sinking and bowing under the weight of one persons foot so we avoided that balcony at all costs. There were sofa beds however they were difficult to use! One member of our party tried to open a sofa bed and unfortunately a hinge fell off into her hand which was completely accidental and could have happened to anyone. We later found out that they had taken £75 out of our account to replace this, despite no prior explanation or discussion therefore we were left trying to chase up why £75 had been taken from one of our accounts. This unfortunately tainted the whole experience for us as we found this very unprofessional. They should in future give people a heads up if they plan on taking money out of their account. Also we received no sympathy for the fact that the sofa bed broke as a member of our party tried to open it and has therefore had to pay full price due to something out of their control. We were made to feel as though we had been misusing the furniture which couldnt have been further from the truth.

Save your money and Don't stay thereI stayed there with my family, checked in on a Friday and checked out on a Sunday. The positive side: the apartment is clean and have comfortable beds. The rest of the story: there was not enough toilet paper, the wifi works for 5 minutes every 3 hours (aprox). There is no customer service: when I arrived to the city and checked in (5:00 pm) the first thing they told me "I was already going home, you are lucky I saw you so I could give you the key" really?! Ok. I asked him about leaving somewhere my luggage he said there's is none during the weekend so it wasn't his problem. For this, when I was looking for a place to stay I ALWAYS check they have luggage storage so I can leave my luggage while I wait for my train and visit more places. On the website they have on the "Reception Services" section: LUGGAGE STORAGE but they don't really offer it. When I told this to the person who gave me the key he told me that he is not responsible for what it says on the website, that information is edited by someone in Australia. So there you go, if you stay there there is none to help you. Until it's time to leave, they send someone to kick you out at 10:00 am.
