A Nice Retreat with Some ExceptionsAt the start, I want to say that if you like being a bit away from the main tourist area, the Edgewater Inn is the perfect spot. Still it is only about a five minutes' walk to Times Square if that is to your liking. My sis and I stayed four nights in the Casey Bay, a well-appointed and located condo on the first floor of the building. With two sets of sliding doors onto a lanai with a view of communal pool and canal, there is nothing to be desired there. The first evening a large water bird landed on the pool's railing and sat there for the longest time--acting like this was his home, and he was coming in from a day's fishing. One day we actually saw a boat tied to the little dock at the end of the slight yard. A picnic table and grill are in this area. There is everything one would need in the kitchen, and the living room has sufficient comfortable seating. The decor is bright and island-infused which adds to the unit's charm. Before I continue this review, I want to indicate that all of the following has been communicated to Harbor House staff (personally or via e-mail) which coordinates stays at the Edgewater Inn. I have held off from writing this review since our stay in July--without having received any reply to my three written attempts at making contact. Now, the not so nice. When I called the day prior to our arrival, I was told Casey Bay would be ready for our arrival for a 3 PM check in. When we arrived at Harbor House around 5:30 to check in, I was told that the unit was just being cleaned and to allow 5 - 10 minutes for housekeeping to finish. I was not amused with this information after our drive to Ft. Myers and having "stayed away" until well after the official check in time. When we arrived at the unit, we were met by two housekeepers who asked us to leave for 45 minutes as they had just started cleaning. I presented our case for immediate entry to no avail--our choice was to leave for the specified time or move into a dirty condo. Upon our return more than 45 minutes later, the housekeepers were gone, but we could not figure out how to get into the Casey Bay using the keyless entry. We looked at the information given upon check in and saw no instructions. Finally, after many attempts at opening the door in several ways, we were able to figure out the "system." There are AC units in the living area and in the bedroom. The one in the LR kept things nice and cool in the LR, dining room, and kitchen. And the AC in the bedroom did the same thing until it gave out our third night there. There is a humidifier/fan which helps a bit with the humidity. A couple of light bulbs were out--or were missing--as well as the battery-operated clock needed a new battery. Part of the dining room lighting fixture was off. There was no tub stopper. Several slats of the vertical blinds at the patio doors were down or broken. Our first morning there, we contacted the Harbour House, and a maintenance person was sent over fairly promptly. He brought light bulbs, fixed the lighting fixture, and replaced the battery in the clock. We asked for assistance in using the Closed Captioning feature on the living room TV. After about 30 minutes trying to figure out how the CC worked, the maintenance man apologized and left. I kept fiddling with everything possible on TV and remotes and finally figured it out. There is an information binder in the unit, but it needs to include more information about the unit itself. The maintenance man did not bring a tub stopper, so we got one at the closeby WalMart. The water is hard water which was not nice for my sister who has long hair. Two of the four burners on the stove did not work. The refrigerator is standard sized; just be sure to adjust the coldness so items in the frig don't freeze. We really are not picky about our accommodations except that we like things clean and in working order which would seem minimal requests. Notes about the vertical blinds and a few other items were written about by other guests in the "journal" which we found on the coffee table in the living room. I chose not to write in it because of the thorough e-mails I wrote to the manager/owner and knowing I would be writing a review here. There is a beach access right across the street which is nice, and it isn't too far to another beach/park at the end of the island with pay parking. We didn't use that beach as we discovered Lover's Key State Park which I would highly recommend. We took our own beach chairs and umbrella, but found that those items can be rented at the beach quite inexpensively. I would also recommend the Edison-Ford Winter Estates for a day's outing. At the Edgewater Inn, there are beach items such as chairs, but replacing of some is needed. We enjoyed our time in the pool. Since the pool is located right outside the Casey Bay's lanai, for privacy, one might want to keep the vertical blinds closed when other guests are using the pool. I took several walks out from the Edgewater. One in the early AM towards Times Square and beyond afforded a quiet time in Ft. Myers Beach before the shops and eateries open. I even got to see huge tubs of ice cream being delivered to the local ice cream shop and watched as floors of some of the restaurants were being hosed out. There is even a 24-hour bar-restaurant just past Times Square, but it was pretty quiet at 7 AM. If you visit Ft. Myers Beach in the summer, you can expect a brief downpour nearly every afternoon. Our third night quite a storm came through which kept me from walking to the little park and pier by Times Square to see the sunset. However, our last night there, I walked to TS where I was able to witness the most beautiful sunset. This is a popular event with lots of people of all ages there to enjoy it. If we go to Ft. Myers Beach again, we would consider staying at the Edgewater Inn because of its location and its reasonable price. However, be forewarned that if you expect perfection, it might not be the place for you.

Great DestinationGreat Service. Best service provided by Pierre. He was very accommodating. The beach is great, minimal rocks, perfect for a family vacation. Within 10 minutes of downtown Naples via driving. Mall is within 5 minutes as well.

home away from homeWe're glad that our kids had a room to themselves. The kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedrooms were all clean and bright. A short walk from "The square" which has shopping, pizza, icecream, candy shops, and a great selection of restaurants nearby as well. Never needed the car to get to anything! Even the sandy shore was a short walk across the street to the beach access between other hotels. Perfect for early morning walk and shell discoveries.

They were very careful with regard to Covid procedures & protocol, & I felt quite comfortable. Very pleased indeed.
