  We couldn't believe our luck for this price!

  This is of course a hostel, and is very cheap, so one doesn't expect a five star hotel experience! When we arrived the reception area was spacious with microwave, fridge, hot water, TV, two computers and tables and chairs. The staff were super friendly and explained everything. We got a Japanese style private tatami room for two people, for only 5500yen total. It had a sink and toilet of it's own and even a big flat screen TV with HDMI port! There were 6 futons in the cupboard so those not used to sleeping on this kind of bed can stack them up! There were also three warm duvets and three pillows. We were given our own sheets and pillow cases on check in to make our own beds up on the floor, Japanese style. One of the best things about this place is the location. It was about one minute from the Dogo Onsen! 15 seconds if you run! And opposite the dogo onsen is a shopping arcade, admittedly for tourists (great if you want to buy lots of traditional Japanese items), but if you go further down into it you'll find a Lawsons (a kind of 24-hour convenience store), several bars and restaurants, and 24 hour supermarket and the tram/train station. This was our first visit to Matsuyama and we'll definitely be back. A tram ticket from here into the main shopping district with the castle, etc, is only 10 mins and 150yen, plus you get to stay in one of the most picturesque parts of the town.

  Marginal stay

  Dorm room is not that comfortable. 24 beds in a room is too much. Close to dogo onsen Building is an old hotel No common room Has bed bugs Even though cheap, cannot recommend since it is hard to sleep and get rest. I recommend finding another hostel in this price or pay more to stay in a hotel.

  Cheap but not worth it

  We stayed here for a night because the other hotels available were quite expansive (it was close to a holiday). We didn't really have a choice. Well, I wish we had. We were in a tiny, not confortable private room. You have to move the furnitures to prepare your futon. The whole place has a bad isolation, so it is pretty noisy, and you have ray of lights coming from everywere at night. Not the best way to rest right ? The bathrooms are old and you don't event have a toothbrush provided. The staff doesn't speak english but is willing to put some efforts to understand what you need : we managed to send our luggages to our next place via Takkybin. If you can afford it, go anywhere else. The money saved here isn't worth it.
