  Imposing foyer and stairs but rest rather tired

  Situated opposite the University in central Lanzhou the hotel once had considerable style but is beginning to need an overhaul. Room comfortable and clean, staff friendly but with limited English (except for one very helpful porter). Breakfasts extensive but all Chinese type food (not usually a problem with us but here it was not really to our taste). Never seemed to be busy, which is perhaps understandable.

  Good location. Old facility. Smelly environment

  The airport shuttle bus terminates in front of the Hotel. I saw a lot of white cotton cloths spreading the corridor floor of the guest tooms in order to absorb the wet carpet's overflow water. Smelly air was full in the room.

  Filthy

  I regretfully report this hotel to have one of the filthiest rooms I have unfortunately stayed it. The old wallpapered walls are grimy with black stains that look like mould but just might be smog stains, the lampshades are water stained, there was a blob on the carpet that looked like puke, The bathtub also had mould, the bedroom door something that looked like coffee??? That had dribbled down it and dried. the bed felt like I was sleeping on a mattress base only. My partner and I were joking we had landed in the "Shining Hotel". The breakfast also no western options and pretty bad Chinese ones too. Don't be fooled by the lack of signage out the front (only written in Chinese), or misled by the marble lined foyer, the rooms above are not fit for habitation. Gross. Avoid it.
