  Great Golf. Not So Great Room

  Let's start with the good. The golf at Eagle Ridge is fantastic. I played the North and South courses. Both were in solid shape. I would have preferred the greens a bit faster but they were by no means slow. Rental clubs were Titleist so that was positive. I played with my almost 4 year old son and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. The staff in Eagle Ridge overall did a great job wearing masks and enforcing rules on capacity at the General Store. We rented a pontoon and went fishing and the marina staff was very friendly and helpful. Now on to the room. We stayed in a Villa, Spring Creek #33. The furniture is dated. It doesn't look like anything has been updated since the Carter administration. The room smelled horrible, liked smoked fish. The downstairs bedroom tv remote was filthy and sticky. The grill igniter didn't work. Noticable cobb webs on the windows. Normally, I would have requested a new room but we were travelling with a baby who needed to nap and it would have been a large production to move everything post nap so we decided to just suck it up. Also, the room featured a washer/dryer but there was no laundry detergent. We called housekeeping and this is just standard policy to not have complimentary laundry detergent. At $300 plus a night I was a bit shocked and have never encountered this before at a hotel. I would recommend that they state this before checking in to manage guest expectations.

  Rental Home vs. Main Hotel Room

  My family and I have stayed several times at Eagle Ridge. My wife decided to book one of the rental homes because we wanted to bring our dog along. We paid the extra fee for our pup. Unfortunately, it seemed like the house was not thoroughly cleaned. The shower curtain liner was stiff and old. The bed was not tripe sheeted like the hotel rooms in the main building. However, the views in Galena were great and we were able to take nice walks along the golf course.

  slow play

  Eight of us have been coming to Eagle Ridge for long golf weekend for 30 years. I have always enjoyed the courses. While playing the North course this year it took us over 5 and a half hours to play. The group in front of us had no idea what they were doing. There were many holes open in front of them. We told the people on charge after nine holes and they did nothing. It got so bad on the back nine that 2 foursomes behind us quit and left the course. They said they could not take the slow play any longer. The issue could have been handled very simply if a Ranger was in use. There were plenty of bag people around club house. Not an enjoyable experience.

  disappointing

  The expensive room was small, drab and generally dirty, with visible streaks on the walls in the bathroom. The water for the jacuzzi tub was barely warm enough and worst of all was the problematic temperature control. We could not control our own temp, but had to call the front desk numerous times a day to alter the temp for our room.

  nice but could be better

  We stayed in one of the townhouses about half a mile from the lodge but still under the resort's banner (we paid $30 a night resort fee that got us literally nothing during a cover winter). The townhouse however was terrific, but there was no garbage pickup, additional towels or soap for a multi-day stay, and only one two-cup bag of Folgers for four people over a long weekend. The phone was disconnected and the CD player didn't work. Yes the kitchen had all kinds of pans, but no pot holders or napkins. But the view was great and we loved the fireplace.
