Choose only as last resort - and know you're being ripped off.

I booked this as a last-minute resort the night before arriving and can now understand well why it wasn't already booked. I paid 200 euro for 2 nights but I wouldnt have had such a problem with it if the listing were just honest about what it was- which was a very small room and bathroom (in which the shower was broken) outside the room in a run-down family home in a dirty residential building. Listing it as a 4 star "hotel" and asking for 100 euro a night goes beyond even the furthest stretches of the imagination, especially considering I stayed in much nicer places around Croatia for half the price (okay, do expect to pay more in Dubrovnik). This apartment goes with the whole mentality of Dubrovnik - overcharging tourists for something very low quality (speaking about the city in general, I've lived in some of the most important cities in Europe such as Rome, Milan and London and haven't ever encountered quite such a bad ratio of quality for money). It is in a great location (10 min walk toy he centre) but parking is an issue, even if we were fortunate enough to get a spot. There are only about 10 spaces for the whole apartment block, which must contain at least 25 apartments. Dubrovnik in general is an absolute nightmare for parking, which is why we chose to stay further in the centre than out so we wouldn't need to move the car! The owner was super friendly but that doesn't compensate for this.

Not very nice, but close to town

This apartment is one of many in this part of Dubrownik, close to old town). And you can't really find food and bars other places in Dubrovnik, so you want to live around here. We got the yellow room and the door to our room was the only one that could be locked. All of the other locks were broken. Picture that. You can walk from the street into the shared apartment and go right up to the bedroom door. Also the damp bathroom/toilet is through the hall where you risk bumping into other guests or people from the street in the middle of the night. I didn't use the bathroom at night for that reason. The room was small with a worn down yellow paint, and an average bed. The air condition and cooler was nice to have. It took about 10-15 minutes to walk to old town, depending on if you were going up- or downhill. We used taxi some of the times. It's cheap and you really don't want to move your car if you are lucky enough to find parking. That's also a big issue in Dubrovnik: you have to choose a hotel with parking if you're travelling by car. This hotel doesn't have parking. But the nice owner of this "hotel" knew about a secret spot where we could park almost legally. The owner makes up for some of the things that's wrong with the hotel, by being very helpful and trusting. You have to pay for the hotel in cash, so bring some if you still want to live here. Cash is king in this town.
