What a hidden gem.Just had 2 fabulous nights at this lovely hotel. After a warm welcome from Kiera on reception we were given a brief tour of the hotel and shown to our room. The hotel has undergone much restoration to a very high standard which is obvious in the warm feeling each floor and staircases gives off. There is a lift for those who require assistance. The rooms are traditional but have modern facilities with large beds and bath. Breakfast and dinner were taken in 2 highly furnished rooms steeped in history. With a separate bar and drawing room made for a relaxing after dinner area to sit. The staff were courteous and attentive to ensure all guests remain safe during the current "social distancing regulations". A pleasant surprise was the use of the gym and pool which are controlled through a simple booking system with hand and cleaning sprays on hand to enhance guest safety. Thank you to everyone who made our break very enjoyable. Phil and Sally (Room 22)

A Truely lovely stayI went with my husband for a special break to celebrate my 60th birthday. The Hotel is set in the amazing grounds although the weather was not brilliant it did not dampen the experience. The room was spotless and warming a lovely large bath to relax in. The breakfast was great plenty of choice and the staff were excellent I could not speak highly enough of them, nothing was to much trouble. My daughter booked for us to have a massage in the spa which was superb and just hit the spot. We booked for a pool slot with the restrictions in place which worked very well, and was relaxing. We treat ourselves to the afternoon tea which was lovely, the only down side was we were in a very large room on our own which lacked a bit of atmosphere. We also had an evening meal on our last night which was very nice. Good banter with the staff and was such a pleasant night. We would highly recommend and certainly we will be returning. A shout out for Lisa who was a trooper.

Beautiful hotel. We had a wonderful night. Afternoon tea was very enjoyable, especially the Eton mess and scones. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Dinner was delicious and the serving staff were wonderful, even with the current restrictions they remained very professional. The room was decorated beautifully and kept very clean.

Lovely setting but not so clean bedroom.Stayed overnight at the weekend. Lovely setting indeed, but very average operations. Room had nothing special (except for the view of the gardens). Bed was dreadful!! mattress had seen better days. Old, lumpy, some stains, most uncomfortable, bed linen has some small holes in it. Not what i would expect from a 4*. Quite a fair amount of dust too . Window was disgusting, black mold and dirt . Obviously not cleaned properly for some time. While I appreciate the challenges with the Covid restriction, it certainly doesn't justify the lack of care and attention to the general upkeep of the rooms. Breakfast was good, friendly staff and efficient service.

Not quite thereI admit that our review may be tainted because we had the night before we had stayed at Gleneagles but Ill try to be fair. We stayed in a ground floor room which was clean and comfortable. Downside is that with no nets privacy once the curtains were opened was impossible. Every hotel takes a different view of COVID limitations but I dont believe that the restricted supply of tea bags and only disposable cups is acceptable in a hotel trying to be better than a motel. The hotel is in a lovely spot with lovely gardens but its very isolated so to eat elsewhere requires getting in the car. Therefore we ate in the hotel restaurant on 2 nights. The menu was very limited eg burgers, fish and chips etc and it did not feel appropriate for the type of hotel they want to be. If we had stayed for more nights we would have struggled to know what to eat. Breakfast was fine Again, because of their view on COVID it felt a bit in-personal at times as the staff, albeit friendly felt remote. The hotel is a very fine old building and decorated in a mix of styles. I personally feel that modernising the look and feel of the dining room would be a good idea which felt very fusty. I admit it may not have been helped by the feel of the average age of the clientele
