  Surprisingly bad service

  We have just ended our stay here. Having heard a lot of good things about Dormy Inn chain so decided to stay here. Pros Breakfast was good. Onsen was good. Room size was big Cons Shockingly bad service. The guy who checked us in did not explain anything. Did not smile. We did not know how the onsen works, when to check out, where to go for breakfast. He just thrust us the English pamphlet whereas I noticed that the other Japanese who checked in was given explanations. This is the minimum expected of the reception at a hotel. Did not receive the usual Japanese hospitable greetings when we entered the hotel after a day out as with the other hotels in Japan.

  Great location, very small room, free night ramen!

  Pros: - very good location near otaru train station surrounded by restaurant and cafe, and also near seafood market - free ramen at 9.30pm and free morning coffee at hotel lobby - the hotel have onseen - staff can speak english - every floor provided vending machine and ice cube. Some floor provide soft drink some alcohol only vending machine - the room is clean, with basic necessities like tooth brush, comb, shaver are provided - free 2 bottle of mineral water every day, tea, coffee also provided in room - hot water works very well - the room have authentic japanese style - the hotel using a unique music box song thru the room alley that bring charm - during our stay the room is noise proof not heard any noise from the outside. Cons: - hotel lobby is small - hotel car drop doesnt have cover. It will be problem during rainy day. - the room is very very small. We order a room with 2 adults and 1 kid (6 years old). Its even harder if you bring lot of bags. No space to move. -the toilet also very small, tight space with low roof. No bath tube. - the place to hang clothes is only for 5 clothes maximum - free wifi is very slow, almost not working - tv is out of date - heater is not very warm at night still feel cold

  Value for money

  Love the location - across the street from Otaru station. The room was not spacious but quite functional. My kids really enjoyed free ramen and lovely breakfast spread. I enjoyed the onsen very much. Will definitely stay here again.

  Lovely hotel at the heart of Otaru

  As soon as you come out of Otaru station, you'll see this hotel right across the road. They staff are great and it's incredibly clean and well maintained. The room size is decent for Japan too! They also have saunas/ Japanese public baths but we never used them as we just didn't have time during our short stay.

  Good location

  Located just a stones throw from the JR Otaru station, this hotel is very conveniently located. We arrived in Otaru early and as it was too early to check in, we left our luggages with the hotel and went out sightseeing before returning in the evening to check in. Took a walk to Otaru canal before making our way up to Tenguyama before returning to check in in the evening. Thought the room was slightly smaller than the Dormy Inn Express Hakodate Goryokaku but definitely much more crowded here. There is a natural hot spring communal bath available within the hotel that can be used from 3pm to 9am overnight. Body care, head care and foot care massage are available at a price. Wifi access is available though a little weak. Complimentary noodle soup is available from 9.30pm to 11pm. Buffet breakfast has a good variety of items.
