Nice stay at The Hotel Donaldson

We had reservations and because we traveled from another state we accidentally arrived before the check-in time. They let us check-in a bit early, which we really appreciated. The room was as pictured with a full-stocked fridge of various drinks and munchies. The furniture showed its age, but relatively clean and comfy. The beds were absolutely comfortable and we didn't hear outside noise. The cocktail hour had a wonderful assortment of beverages and appetizers. We absolutely loved Archie! He was the first to greet us and it was a sweet surprise. Room service was prompt and served by a very personable woman. Thank you!

Great location and a great stay

Great location in Downtown Fargo. Very nice boutique hotel. Large room with walk in shower. Nice artwork throughout the hotel. Turn-down service was a nice touch along with breakfast delivered at your convenience. The bar and restaurant were top notch.

A gem of a hotel in Fargo

This is a great boutique hotel in downtown Fargo, which is itself a gem of a town. The hotel's decorative motif is local art and each room is the project of a different artist. The reception area feature four black a white photographs of Moscow, Paris, London and Fargo!!! That really says it all. Roof top dining and exceptionally well maintained property with all the amenities you'd expect and then some - truffles at night.

    Nice Hotel In Fargo!

We stayed at Hotel Donaldson on a road trip out west, and couldn't have been happier. The Hotel was adorable and in a perfect location in downtown Fargo. The staff was really friendly and quite helpful. And we felt as safe as one can feel at a hotel during COVID summer. (For example, the hotel staff was all wearing masks.)

Stay Here When Visiting North Dakota. The Donaldson Will Deliver

Downtown Fargo at dusk on a decidedly sub-zero, pandemic Sunday evening presented a forlorn streetscape. The Donaldson Hotel, not a bright, shiny structure to begin with, may have been the most gloomy place I have ever pulled up to. Half-lit neon. The ground floor was darkened; the bar and restaurant closed due to Covid (I was forewarned of this). The surrounding businesses shut. Exiting the elevator on the deserted second floor, I approached the unstaffed check-in desk where a sign directed me to telephone for assistance. #TwilightZoneLastMan onEarth? I'm happy to report that these first impressions are easily overlooked, and I really liked this hotel. I never saw anyone there other than the manager on duty, but I honestly didn't expect to. I'm glad this hotel remains open during these trying times, as it would put a lot of boutique hotels in larger cities to shame. I was astonished to find out the hotel is approaching its 20th anniversary, as it is in great shape. My room was bright, spacious and very well-lit and appointed. The bathroom was to a certain taste, but it was roomy, immaculate and had Aveda toiletries and a great rainfall shower. All four staff members I came in contact with during my two-night stay were capable and efficient. Breakfast was Continental only, but they did bring it into the room, and my request for two pots of (good) coffee was happily obliged. The Donaldson's location is central, and downtown Fargo isn't a bad place at all. Once Sunday had passed, it livened up reasonably. The Donaldson offers the intimacy of a B&B, but with the privacy of a hotel and very distinctive and tasteful decor. A nice treat, and I'm sure with the bar, restaurant and outdoor terraces open, it is an even nicer experience.
