The hotel might be not bad unless you get the room with smell of chemicals

Before submitting this review Id been thinking whether I had to rate this hotel with 2 (Poor) or even 1 (Terrible). Though this hotel might earn 3 or 4 stars unless we were given a terrible room with strong smell of some chemicals with all related consequences; other reviewers conveyed this earlier as well. I tried to be objective and therefore I decided to rate it with 2 (Poor) as, after all, this hotel has certain advantages for guests unless they get the same unfortunate room. Lets start with advantages of this hotel which I mainly support. You can peruse these reviews here on Tripadvisor. Like I wrote in the title the hotel might be not bad indeed but still it left mixed feelings. For example, the first thing which impressed us was the rooms doors. They were real commercial-grade steel doors with peepholes what are usually installed in main entrances of buildings or apartments. Frankly speaking I dont have any idea why such vandal-resistant doors might be needed in that hotel. Probably such doors were supposed to create sense of safety. Then I dont understand why these doors didnt have internal latches to build this sense of safety complete. Fortunately at least a tiny safe box was securely anchored inside the wardrobe. But it was so small that only passport and wallet could squeeze there. Still it was better than in some other hotels where safe boxes arent available. I always write in my reviews that I badly need electric kettles for brewing hot tea to help maintain hydration after long trips. Thankfully our room had it together with two glasses and two coffee cups. But like I said earlier, many things in this hotel caused mixed feelings. So the kettle existed but it was a quite challenging task to seek a place where to plug it all electrical outlets were concealed behind chairs, TV or bedside tables. Thats why I had to move furniture to plug the kettle standing on a tea-table. That kettle worked and produced quite a lot of noise while boiling water. Moreover, water poured out of the 5-gallon water dispenser in the lobby contained lots of white precipitate and the kettle had to be rinsed out rather often. If I worked in the hotel management Id change supplier of these 5-gallon water bottles. But lets return to the room. Other unoccupied electrical outlets also existed beside the double bed but in order to reach them we had to move bedside tables. Similarly our room was equipped with a flat-panel TV, which worked well but was oddly positioned from my point of view. It stood on a TV cabinet and almost completely overlapped wide mirror hanging on the wall behind the TV. Use of such layout of furniture in the room is still unclear. Furthermore massive footboard of the bed partially blocked view of TV screen which completed the overall negative impression of poor forethought of our room. Surely all these questions have to be directed to someone who designed the room. But in general, the room made an impression that it was stuffed with all needed equipment and furniture yet without any clear sense and without any order. You know, after returning home I decided to study reviews from other guests of that hotel. And to my greatest astonishment I found very similar report about the kettle, the electric outlets and positioning of the TV and the mirror in other room. The worst thing was that the hotel representative admitted that issue and promised to address those described problems. That mentioned report was submitted in February. Judging on our room, nobody hasnt even bothered to fix anything since then. Our room was spacious with lofty ceiling. So was the bathroom. It was decorated with sand-colored tiles and fitted up not only with toilet bowl but with bidet as well. The hotel provided generic toiletries in branded tubes and a couple of toothbrushes. Hair dryer was mounted on the wall and did its job well. Everything was almost all right and usable in the bathroom. We only missed soft facial tissues which usually exist in more expensive business hotels. Nonetheless I believe that the construction workers, who tiled walls in the bathroom, could do their job better especially when preparing holes for bath and shower mixer and sizing tiles near door jambs to get better appearance. Additionally we found a foldable clothes drying rack which can be very handy for drying towels and swimming suits. Iron and ironing board were not found in the wardrobe but they were provided on demand. We merely called the front desk and the iron and ironing board were immediately delivered to our door. Yes they were very prompt. Wi-Fi worked rather well. After obtaining a password from the front desk, all our gadgets successfully connected to the hotels wireless hotspot even when we walked outside near the fountain. Internet bandwidth was appropriate for generic web browsing and VoIP phone calls using YouMagic. In this hotel we didnt pay for breakfasts in advance. Having read reviews here on Tripadvisor we knew that several cafes in this area offer breakfasts. For instance, in café RIS, which was only in 30 meters from the hotel, we paid only 225 rubles for breakfast. We also had breakfast in café-bar Britania. It was more expensive and they start serving breakfasts beginning at 11 AM only. So in the café RIS you could have breakfast much earlier. Certainly you could pay for breakfasts in this hotel separately like we did once. The morning meal was pretty eatable while it was a bit pricey than we could find in other similar places. However we were disappointed that despite of smoking ban in all public places in Russia, several people were smoking on the cafés summer verandah. Sadly this mentioned ban doesnt explicitly regulate situations with summer verandahs. We only succeeded to negotiate with the cafes personnel to shut the door to prevent the cigarette smoke from getting inside where we were sitting. I thought that the resolution satisfied us both but the fact of smoking left a bad aftertaste. Additionally to these cafés and restaurants, there are a few mini-shops where you could buy bottled water, ice-cream, cookies or beer. They work 24x7 and are reachable only within 3-5 minutes of walk. Usually we had dinner in other places. For instance we enjoyed visiting two cafés: My coffee at the Old Port area and Rukkola at Vorovskogo Street. I definitely recommend both places they serve good food and are not very expensive. You may check my other reviews here on Tripadvisor. If you plan getting there by taxi it should cost around 130 Russian rubles. You will notice several taxi cabs around the hotel any time of the day. But they had higher fare. Thats why I always ordered taxi with phone calls or online. Thankfully there are plenty of taxi services in Sochi, search online for list of taxi companies. Now let me tell you about strong unpleasant smell in our room. We sniffed it from very first minute in the room but hoped that it would dispel as time went. However after a few days of staying in the room it became unbearable so that we had to relocate to other hotel. Strangely, the lady on front desk pretended that she was surprised and tried to reassure us that such smell was never sensed before. But suddenly she added that the reek most likely came from naphthalene. Interesting, how would she know that as she had never entered our room and we didnt know and didnt even mention name of that chemical?! The hotel manager was very polite and willingly promised to conduct thorough investigation and report its results. Time has already passed and to my regret nobody bothered to inform us about source of that nasty smell. Evidently nobody even tried to conduct that investigation and everything went exactly like it was with other customer who wrote her review in January. That lady experienced exactly the same troubles with smell in her room and the hotel management also promised to deal with that pong. You can easily find that other review here on Tripadvisor and decide yourself whether you are going to stay in this hotel or not. If youre still inclined to stay in this hotel I would definitely recommend you visiting Botanical Garden (Dendrarium). Its main entrance is located within 10 minutes of walking distance from the hotel. But I would advise you to take the cable car to climb the top of the hill and explore the Botanical Garden going down the hill. And dont forget to visit lower part of the arboretum. The ticket for the cable car covered both parts of the garden and journey of the cable car itself. It cost 450 Russian rubles. Youll undoubtedly wander on the promenade and reach The Old Port then. Honestly there are many other places which Id advise you to visit in Sochi and around the city. For instance Id recommend visiting Stalins Dacha (aka Stalins Villa). On the bus stop near the Arboretum (the Botanical Garden) youll see taxi cabs inviting you to travel to Abkhazia. Let me now summarize all pros and cons of this hotel. Advantages: Great location, many local attractions are within only minutes of walk. Many cafes nearby where you can dine any time including breakfast in the morning. Free bicycle rental. Disadvantages: Strong smell of chemicals in the room. Smoking isnt prohibited on the cafes verandah. This might be a problem if you cant stand cigarette smoke. Noisy celebrations in the restaurant and busy street with many cars even at night time. Weakly thought-out layout of electrical outlets and furniture in the room. Water from the water dispenser leaves lime scale in the electric kettle. I hope this review helped you.

    Habitaciones lindas

Average, but the location is very good

The staff wasn't able to accommodate us with the requested in advance 2 beds, rather then one king bed. They offered for one of us a fold-out couch which was very dirty with heavily stained mattress. When we asked the staff to provide us with (at least!) another clean top mattress, they said that the maid who has a key from the storage room already left!!! This is unheard off that the hotel depend on one person with the key from the storage room...LOL . But the city is beautiful, the location of the hotel was very good and convenient, so all the troubles with our sleeping arrangement we put behind when visited the local attractions and good restaurants.
