    The cheaper choice

I am writing this review listening to the telephone conversation from the next room, just as people next to my room must have enjoyed listening to my Skype call earlier on this evening. Yes, you have guessed it: This hotel is just as sound proof as a paper bag. Hotel Birkegaardens sales pitch is all about the pricing. And in many ways, this hotel is the cheaper choice. It seems like a place mostly for people who need a one-night pitstop - just please keep in mind that if you turn up the television here, you will share the experience with others, though. Honestly, I dont think of myself as being that picky when it comes to hotels. I spend some of my time on the road, and I am usually happy with a proper bed, a proper bath room and a proper working place. Here, the working place is a wooden board on the wall accompanied by what seems like a garden chair. It is doable, but my guess is, that you - like me - eventually will turn the bed into a workspace as well. Wi-Fi is free, though, and the bed is quite good for sleeping purposes too. The surroundings are the height of mediocrity, with the nearby mall playing host to a collection of equally mediocre dining places and stores you can find anywhere else - but admittedly, lots of them. If you are traveling by bus, there is a bit of a walk to the nearest bus stop. That basically just adds on to my claim as this being a pit stop, mostly for those on the road passing by, staying a night or two before moving on. If you want to really visit Herning, I would suggest you take a look at the hotels in the center of the town. Then you will be in walking distance of most you will need, and you will feel just a little less like sleeping in a refurbished office building. If youre passing by, dont care about noise, and just need a cheap place to sleep, this could work for you. But please do not consider that a recommendation. Once again: This is the cheaper and the faster choice, and once you stand in a room here looking at the decor, you will know what I mean.

    Great Customer Service!

I attended that Danish Holiday Show last weekend which is an extremely busy and well-attended exhibition. I stayed in Hotel Birkegaarden which is located next to the main shopping centre in Herning. This family run hotel is very friendly and very good-value for money. The room was clean and warn and the shower is quite good too. What makes this hotel stand out is the great customer care. I was stuck for a taxi and was told I would have to wait an hour and a half until a taxi became available as there were so many people travelling to the exhibition. I headed towards the bus stop, unsure of which direction I was meant to travel in, made all the more difficult by the fact that everything was written in Danish! Whilst I was trying to figure out how best to get to the show, the owner of the hotel pulled up in his car and kindly offered me a lift to the show. He had felt sorry for me. I found this gesture to be wonderfully kind and it certainly helped me out as I arrived on time!

    A motel style hotel

We were travelling for a business trip and required 4 rooms. This hotel/motel offered a good option to stay especially if you are traveling by car. Parking facilities were good. Breakfast option was of acceptable quality. The rooms were a little too small and dated. The whole place needs a fresh up and update. This place is a good for if you are looking for budget and lower end facilities.

    Stay out of this place!

I had made a reservation for two rooms which I had to pay in advance. First time for me needing to pay the hotel in advance, but that was the only option. In the confirmation that I got from the hotel, it was said that if booking is canceled at least 14 days before check-in then I would get a full refund. Unfortunately, I had to change my plans, so I canceled the booking 3 weeks before the check-in. Now they refuse to give me a refund because they don't do that in May months! When I reminded them about the booking confirmation text (full refund if booking is canceled at least 14 days before check-in) they told me that it's just a text that is normally sent in their booking confirmation. I will contact Denmark Consumer Ombudsman about this since I have a written confirmation from Hotel Birkegaarden that I should get a full refund. So I never visited this hotel (nor never will after this incident) and my advice to everyone is to stay far far away from this hotel.

    Good for one night visit

Arrived in town for one night stay to see Ice hockey. This hotel was perfect for one night. Bed was comfortable to sleep in. Breakfast was good with the selection. Could have been a bit more protein to choose from. Cereal, bread, yoghurt, fruits, coffee, juices... Dining room was beautifully decorated and on the side they had even a pool table. The room was very small and bathroom tiles were not the cleanest. In general the cleanliness was good anyway. In the hall was a pungent smell, like an old building. However that smell didn't bother in the room. But like I said, for one night stay it's perfect. Reception guy was the best. Very service minded and friendly. Oh, and location was great!! Right next to a supermarket Bilka and a shopping center! Train station was also just a walking distance away.
