  Traditional hotel but with a few western rooms

  Lovely stay in this nice place; many of the rooms are Japanese style but we had a western one. The welcome is lovely and you are shown up to your room. Our dinner was included and was exquisite - served in private rooms, it was fantastic. Only downside was room looked a bit dated and no English-speaking TV.

  Accessible to other attractions in Matsuyama

  Ryokan-style hotel which is within close vicinity of all the other attractions. Was within 10 mins distance to the Dogo Onsen, the main walking street for souvenirs and food. Staff were also fluent in English, and were dressed in very pretty kimonos!

  Impeccable Service

  From the moment you drive to the front door, the service was impeccable. From the front counter service staff to the waitress serving our meals in the room, they really try their very best to answer your every request. We stayed on the 7th floor tatami room with an outdoor onsen bath. The room was incredibly spacious, clean and had little wonderful touches (e.g. scented toilet paper!). The open air onsen bath was large enough to for our family of 4, and very private. Meals were amazing. We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel. A wonderful 2-day stay. The only downside of the hotel was that the road leading up to it had a few seedy establishments.

  Classic Onsen Hotel

  We enjoyed our stay at Dogokan, having booked a Japanese room with attached private outdoor onsen (hot tub) on the 7th floor. Dogokan is perfectly located if you want to explore Dogo Onsen (one of the oldest bath houses) and the area. Central Matsuyama with Castle, Museum et cetera is just a short tram ride away. It's a classical Japanese hotel, so there is no "American Bar", but a Karaoke place, some gift shops and a restaurant. As we chose to eat out, we can't judge on dinner and breakfast. If you plan to stay 1-2 nights in Matsuyama and want to experience a classic Japanese 4*, give Dogokan a try!

  It was my first time travel to Dogo, although I visited Japan more than 30 times. I reserved a non-smoking room at Dogokan for 3 days in Nov, 2019. On the evening of the second day, I smelt secondhand smoke, I asked the reception is it a NON-Smoking floor, they said IT IS a SMOKING floor, but MY ROOM is NON-smoking. I asked if they have non-smoking floor, they said yes. They did nothing to solve this issue, and I suffered secondhand smoke for more than 12 hours. I think it is ridiculous in Japan, not a "Japanese service" anymore.
