Nice roomsNice and beautiful small hotel, not bad for a three stars hotel. Our room had a suitable size and was nicely designed. We even had a roof window with an electrical remote control. Nice and clean. WIFI works well everywhere. Friendly staff. Good pizzas at the restaurant/pizzeria. Bed and mattresses comfortable. No international breakfast.

Exceeded our expectationsMyself and my friend were touring Lake Garda for 2 nights , We had never been to Lake Garda before and booked this hotel in the hopes it would be safe and somewhat nice. Well it exceeded our expectations. We were running late, so we rang to ask would we still be able to check in after check in closed. The man who I presume was the manager/owner told us not to worry . We arrived to a very pleasant welcome from him. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable straight away. He gave us our room Key and even offered us some pizza if we hadnt eaten. We went to our room, which I was convinced was brand new because of the cleanliness and perfect finishes . The shower was one of the best showers Ive used and a very comfortable bed. When we woke in the morning we went for breakfast which was also outstanding ! It had everything from Croissants, fresh bread to Meats and Cheeses along with honey still on the honeycomb. We travelled around lake Garda with great ease from this location(we had a car). We spent two fabulous nights there, and were sad to leave. The man who I presume was the manager/ owner shook our hands and thanked us for staying. When I make my next visit to Lake Garda I will most definetely look to book here again

Restaurant with accommodationWe chose the Hotel Dogana due to its price, previous reviews and short transfer from Verona airport which we arranged through the hotel for 48 Euro each way. It is a lovely looking building just outside of Sirmione and on a main road which is busy and noisy when sitting by the pool. It is a short walk to the lake but one of the less attractive parts including a public beach area which is busy at weekends. The rooms are very clean but very basic. There is no fridge or tea / coffee making facilities. The aircon is excellent and rooms are cleaned daily. The bathroom however is tiny with a very small shower that one can hardly fit in and has no power. There is no safe in the room so we had to lock our case each time and the TV only has Italian channels. If you are from the UK then the plug sockets are not the standard European 2 pin sockets. We only found one of these in the bathroom which was used for the towel rail. A pain when charging phones etc. The reception is bright, clean and modern and all the staff are friendly. Breakfast is very basic and coffee is from a machine and not great. The pool area needs attention with weeds growing through the concrete and the pool was not cleaned for a few days. We even found 2 toads in there - one of which was dead and toad excrement settled at the bottom of the pool for days! We took our own towels for the pool as no info on the website however you can hire some for 2 euro. The restaurant attached to the hotel is very good and always busy. Although I would describe the staff as friendly they were not proactive and a little inconsistent. Any drinks from the bar you had to go to and order, it was dependent who was working whether you took them to your table or not and glasses / plates were not collected from around the pool. It would appear there is more focus on the restaurant customers than hotel guests. Due to the hotel being some distance from Sirmione we decided to hire bikes from the hotel at 5 Euro each per day. They have a selection of sit up and beg bikes with gears and a basket which come with a lock. They are not all in good condition with my chain coming off and the lights did not work when riding in the evening. This was reported but no apology or offer of a refund or discount. Furthermore, it is 5 Euro regardless of hiring it for an hour or 20 hours. Most of the area has cycle paths and it is the way to see the lake. We loved it and it burnt off some of the food! I would describe this hotel as a good budget hotel but it is not in Sirmione. If you want to be closer I am sure you would pay more. Bikes and buses easy to access and get about so we were happy with the location. If you want to see more of the lake then I would definitely recommend hiring a boat for the day. It is not cheap (about 250 Euro including fuel) but we had a great time and visited many of the towns. Overall I would describe Dogana as a restaurant with accommodation - not a hotel with a restaurant.

Great and relaxing experienceHotel Dogana was a pleasant surprise. Among the many positive aspects of our stay, I would definitely highlight the rich and varied breakfast, including fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereal, ham and bacon, eggs, honey, jams, croissants and home made cakes. The swimming pool area is beautiful, the pictures online dont do it justice, and there is the possibility to order drinks and aperitivos to enjoy on the sunbeds. The rooms are modern and clean, again, from the pictures online they look smaller than in reality. Another aspect to take in consideration is the location: firstly, although on the road, the rooms and swimming pool area are always quiet; secondly, the hotel is located only five minutes away from a gorgeous lido (beach on the lake), and you can walk to shops and supermarkets in 15/20 minutes. The hotel has bikes that you can rent for £5/day and I recommend to use this service as the area is marked by a bike lane that takes you everywhere in complete safety (also Sirmione can be reached by bike in 30 minutes). Last but not least, the staff was welcoming, polite and nice and spoke German and English. It goes without saying that I do highly recommend Hotel Dogana. We will be back!
