Great for families - just watch out for some sneaky extra charges!

We stayed at this apart-hotel with our 4 month old baby, using a voucher deal that we had bought online (therefore making our stay very good value for money). The apartment itself is quite dated, with furniture and furnishings from the 70's, however it was very spacious and well-equipped. One thing it didn't have (but available from reception for a 20 CHF deposit) was a hair-dryer in the bathroom. The kitchen contained everything that we needed, including washing-up liquid and tea-towels, as well as a few other useful bits and bobs such as scissors and string. I noticed that there was even a fondue set. There was a sign saying that use of the kitchen would incur an extra cleaning charge, but we didn't see one on our bill. Perhaps they just say this to encourage people to leave it reasonably clean. Another extra charge which was on our bill when we checked out, but at least knew about in advance, was the baby cot, which we had requested in our booking. This was 50 CHF, which is more than most hotels charge (normally nothing), but we thought fair. However, when sending us a confirmation email they slipped in an additional 20 CHF per night for the baby, which we questioned and they then retracted. Not sure why they would charge 20 CHF per night for a baby when they don't really use any of the services or even additional water/electricity! The hotel is located at one end of the town - the opposite end from the ski lifts. However, there is a free bus (best to check the timetable as they're only half-hourly I think), and getting on at this end of town (the second stop) meant that you always got a seat. The main part of the town with its restaurants, supermarkets and tourist information is only a 5-10 minute walk away. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel on both nights and found the food, atmosphere and service very nice and good value for money. There were lots of families with kids.

    Nice apartment with hotel services

This was our third time to the Disentiserhof, and although I have to admit that it wasnt perfect, we will probably be back again! We stayed this time with 3 couples with babies from 13 to 16 months plus one single friend sans baby = 7 adults and 3 children under two years old. We had a two-level 3 bedroom apartment (C404), which was very roomy, although would have been nicer for the babies if it were all on one level. However, for our random extra friend sleeping on the sofa bed in the loft living room, it was nice to have the separate space. This did mean that we only had a dining area on the main floor, but this suited our purposes fine (and the chairs were still comfy). We arrived rather early (around noon) and were still able to get into the apartment right away, which was nice. We had a lot of demands on the reception staff during our stay (mostly asking questions and requesting extras for the babies), but were always treated courteously, if not warmly. One thing to note: this is actually a time-share hotel and each apartment is owned by a different owner, which means that the apartments are outfitted very differently and unless you know where you are staying beforehand, you dont know what equipment you will have! For example, we did not have a fondue pot or raclette machine, which is very standard fare in most Swiss apartment rentals and forced us to get creative with our fondue. (However, other reviewers said they had this.) We had no mention of charges for the use of the kitchen nor were we charged. (We used it every night.) There are extra charges for the baby cots (30 CHF) and parking (10 CHF), but we were told about this with the booking and we opted to take the train, which I would strongly recommend. Disentis is on the Glacier Express route and the train trip was also beautiful. The free local bus stops right in front of the hotel (Stop Sogn Placi) and takes you to/from town, the station, the ski lifts, etc. The front desk has free schedules, as the service is somewhat sporadic. Also, the hotel has a free shuttle to/from the station which we used on the way back which was very helpful. Otherwise, it was a nice 5 minute walk into town. The Breakfast Buffet was great and had more than enough selection for everyone. It was also nice to have, as we didnt think it would be included at that price! The Pool/Sauna area was nice, although the pool was a little chilly for a wellness pool, and the babies didnt last very long. Sauna towels are available at the reception. All in all, we had a very good time and will probably go back to the Disentiserhof, since the price is perfect for a nice apartment with hotel services included.

Large apartment but hotel lacks soul

We were greeted by the lovely Magi who really made us feel welcome. We trooped through to the apartment which was very spacious. The view was wonderful. The beds were two singles pushed together, however the pillows and linen were nice. The bathroom was large, though the shower head came halfway up the wall so you would need to be a midget to wash your hair. Very strange design. The hotel itself lacks character and is not well designed in terms of entrance or sitting areas...Free wifi in the lobby only. Breakfast may have been ok if we had been early - but there were leftovers by the time we ate at 9.30am....breakfast area is large and lacks ambience, as does the hotel itself. The manageress there is a wonderful character and was very warm and engaging - two thumbs up to her for giving warmth to a relatively characterless hotel.

    Apartment hotel

Friendly staff. Wifi was only in lobby-area. On October few visitors. Restaurants open in the city center. Room was large, but beds were noisy and too soft. Sheets and towels were worn. Nearby railway kept noise. Breakfast average.
