  Wonderful getaway

  This unique gem had lots of character, comfort, and welcoming staff. It allowed us access to familiarize ourselves with a new city and were not disappointed. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning.

  A wonderful hotel for any purpose.

  My wife and I, in desperate need of a night of quiet sleep without our beautiful baby or two dogs, booked a night at the Detroit Foundation Hotel and reserved a table in the Apparatus Room. After spending the evening there, we have no doubt that we will be back for another experience at some point. The welcoming staff, clean and well appointed rooms and fantastic food are far and away a better experience from staying at any of the other chain hotels within a stones throw of The Foundation (and we have stayed at nearly all of them at some point). It's convinced us that for our future weekend trips to the city we will make it a point to stay at boutique properties from now on. However, this would be a great property to stay at if I was on business as well. The staff has taken great care to make the property and restaurant safe during an unprecedented pandemic. Our room was spotless, staff were courteous and masked, and the restaurant followed protocols without a hiccup at all. It was our first experience dining out in 8 months and the kitchen and serving staff of the Apparatus Room were phenomenal. The restaurant is gorgeously decorated and engrosses you in a lovely ambiance. The food will leave you wanting more and the bar serves up a wonderful drink menu. Thank you for the wonderful evening and we look forward to returning

  Used to be a favorite...I don't think it can all be blamed on Covid

  Yesterday my husband and I ventured to Detroit from just north of Ann Arbor, it was a gorgeous day, about 50 degrees. It was nice to see so many people out and about on Woodward, safely engaging during Covid. After a dinner at Slow's we decided, you know, it's a gorgeous night let's get a room and stay in the city instead of driving home. We called Shinola Hotel first, which is our favorite but hadn't been to Foundation in several years and historically, we always have a nice experience there. We did have our dog with us and paid the $75 pet deposit, so with our room we were at about $350 for a standard king room (room 428). I asked at the front desk if they had food or water dishes for our dog and was informed no, that they didn't. Additionally, they also didn't have valet parking so we'd have to go across the street to the Crown Plaza and park there for $30 a night. Foundation Hotel, please take a note from Shinola Hotel, 2 things regarding pets: 1) Shinola waved there pet during our most recent visit which was GREAT. 2) when we checked into our room there (at Shinola), they provide a doggy bed and lovely ceramic food and water dishes. (they also have an outdoor dog area on the mezanee of the 4th floor so you don't have to go all the outside and look for a patch of grass in the city). My husband went to the restaurant and asked there for a food/water container for our dog and they gave us a cardboard take out container. It was waxed line so fortunately it would hold water. Our room was at the end of a long hallway so I figured it would be quite but we could hear every conversation on the other side of the door. Saturday night, sounded like ladies night. Lots of laughing, chatting and high-heeled boots clacking. I turned the white noise app on my phone, which didn't muffle the sound enough, our dog was startled by the noise. Every other time we've been to the Foundation Hotel the rooms were clean and homey. There's usually a little leather tray to put your watch/jelwelry in and a wool blanket. Both gone. The wet bar and snacks. Empty. All gone. The wet bar fridge is there but not stocked. (Shinola stocks their snacks and wet bar during Covid so I know it's possible to do safely). No bottled water either. So no drinks/ snacks AND no in-room dining menu? And the nightstands were dusty. I didn't scour the rest of the room but noticed this because the nightstands are covered in glass and the dust was very visible. We ended up leaving around 11:30 pm, we couldn't stay. I wouldn't say everything was terrible, the front desk attendant was pleasant, the bedding and mattress is of good quality. The water glasses in the bathroom were real glass and not plastic. The room is also decorated nicely. I'm not sure if we'll be back when we know with a little more planning we could have superior accommodations down the street. Sorry guys,

  A great Foundation

  We loved our stay in the "509" king. My girlfriend was allergic to something so ask about down or feather alternatives if you are sensitive to that kind of thing. Easy parking / friendly staff / great food. I recommend this hotel.

  Beautiful hotel

  Absolutely gorgeous hotel. Great location. The Apparatus Room was delicious. Parking was available in a lot next door or across the street with valet. Very walkable area to sightsee. Unique rooms with great character.
