    OK - but not great

This isn't a bad hotel at all. The building is very old, but the rooms have been recently refurbished and are very comfortable. A comfortable king-size bed, everything functional and the cleaners had done their job very well. It's not close to much else, but comfortable nonetheless. The reason for the average rating rather than something higher is because of issues with some of the staff, and possibly their systems. We were travelling up the NSW coast and rang this hotel during the morning to try and make a booking. We could only get the answering machine and so left a message asking to be called back. After a couple of hours we hadn't received a call back so we booked on line instead. On arrival we told the young lady at reception that we were still waiting for a call back. She seemed apologetic, but couldn't explain it, but then offered us an upgrade. Unfortunately it was to the category of room which we'd booked on line and already paid for. This also seemed to surprise her, so she gave us a free continental breakfast. Had we known how poor the breakfast was we wouldn't have bothered. Before moving on to that tale of woe, as an aside - the hotel really does need to do something with the lights on the terraces outside each room. They can't be switched off from the room (or at least I couldn't find any means of doing so) and so light up the room, even with the drapes closed. I ended up removing the bulb so that I could have an early night. But that was really the only negative about the room. However - the following morning we went down to breakfast at the in-house restaurant. After waiting several minutes at the "Wait here to be seated" sign without being attended to, the young man at reception called out to us from across the lobby to just go in and find a seat. We did so and found the breakfast in a small alcove off in a corner. Imagine a shelf about the size of a large broom cupboard. There was a toaster, a bowl with a few apples and oranges in it, and a few of those mini-packets of cereals. But the most bewildering thing was that there were no tea or coffee making facilities available. I don't mean they had run out or something - there was no tea or coffee - or in fact any hot drink - available at the breakfast bar. There was also no bread for toast or plates to eat from, but more on that in a moment. There was however, a nearby bar counter at which there was an espresso machine. I approached and asked the young lady there if this was where we got tea and coffee. Her immediate response was that coffee is not included in the breakfast. I was obviously surprised at this, so she added that she could make me an instant coffee. I asked instead for a cup of tea. I'm not sure why, but she was certainly not in a good mood and grunted at me that she would bring it over. I should have clarified then that I wanted the tea with my breakfast, not my morning tea, which was when it eventually arrived. Meanwhile, my wife, still at the breakfast nook, asked the same young lady if some plates and bread could be bought out - there were none - to which the young lady replied "Some people need to be a bit more patient". Which didn't impress my wife at all, given that there were exactly 6 people in the dining room and the young lady didn't appear to be actually doing anything productive - or anything at all in fact. My wife - herself a qualified chef and formerly head chef in large restaurant kitchens - provided the young lady with a some advice about her attitude and appropriate service levels in a professional kitchen. Sadly, she did not seem to accept this advice happily. It appears we were not the only ones disappointed in the service and breakfast offerings. As my wife returned to our table, she was stopped by an elderly couple seated nearby, who unloaded their own litany of complaints about the young lady and her attitude and the very poor breakfast offering. They were regular visitors to Nambucca Heads and were most firm that they would not be staying at that hotel again. I waited about 20 minutes for my tea to arrive, and when it did, it was a tea bag in half a cup of hot water. No milk, sugar or teaspoon. Just a tea bag in half a cup of not-quite-hot-enough-water. Her mood had certainly not improved since I had seen her last and - I admit this is purely conjecture - I am sure the young lady delayed bringing my tea purely out of spite because she was so evidently in such a bad mood. The delay was certainly not caused by how busy she was in what was virtually a deserted restaurant. I realise anyone can have a bad day, but the attitude and behaviour of the breakfast server was, for me, a deal breaker. There is nothing particularly wrong with the rooms, in fact they are quite good. But we would not stay here again almost solely based on the behaviour of that one staff member. And from our discussions with the elderly couple who shared breakfast with us, we aren't the onyl ones.

    A fabulous Stay

The Cubana Resort was just perfect. The room was huge which was great as ai had a few people to run and ENJO training session there. The pool was lovely the restaurant was really next level. The food was absolutely delicious. Plus cocktails by the pool were also great! I went out first thing and drove to the beach for a morning dip then came back to my welcoming room to set off for the day.

    Great stay near the beach

We went to Coffs Harbor and stay here for two nights in the interconnected room, my whole family was very happy with the room, it is pretty roomy. We did a couple of amendments to our request on the room settings and all get accepted by the friendly resort, they also clarified our questions before we arrived at the premise. Very happy about the stay!
