Beautiful place!Hotel des Remparts in Beaune, is a lovely place to stay. Its very quiet, and is close to everything in the town. The staff was extremely cordial, giving us a map of the area, and pointing us to our chosen restaurant. The front of the hotel is very cozy, reminiscent of days gone by. Our room was comfortable (a/c!), the beds were nice and the bath as well. Something I learned during this stay: when they ask you what time you will arrive, dont be 4 hours late! They could possibly give your room away. But, fortunately, in our case, they did not. If you are stuck on the autoroute, or touring a winery, CALL them, and let them know you will arrive later than expected. Another tip: some rooms are on the third floor, with a windy staircase access. Pack light!

Really DisappointingHotel did not live up to the pictures. It certainly isnt the romantic setting it could be. Hotel is more shabby and very dirty rather than rustic and ambient. Room 33. The bathroom had mould in the grout and orange staining around the bath and on the floor. The shower curtain was also heavily stained. The carpet is filthy, heavily stained and full of dirt. The wall paper is coming away from the walls at the edges and the walls are scuffed. The breakfast consisted of lots of packets and lots which could be recycled. Along with a slice of ham and cold boiled eggs. The croissants were fresh, but a good breakfast could be bought in town for the same or a cheaper price. The courtyard was scruffy, dead plants and weeds could have easily been removed. I do have my invoice to prove I that I have stated here. I have written the the hotel twice to complain but havent received a reply. The staff on check-out were also uninterested in my complaint.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Des RempartsAs part of our Rick Steves' Best of Eastern France tour, we spent a couple of days in Beaune. Our hotel was a short walk from where our bus dropped us off. The owner and staff all met us in the courtyard to welcome us. Our room was located on the third floor and was spacious, with A/C. Breakfast, which was included, offered a variety including GREAT coffee. While in Beaune, France was holding a national music festival which drew lots of crowds and acts throughout the city. Fortunately our hotel was in a quiet area, but close walking distance to plenty of shops, restaurants and other activities. I can easily recommend this hotel if you're staying in Beaune.

Maybe Once Upon a TimeVery well located in quiet neighborhood close to everything in lovely old building with courtyard and formerly majestic rooms. Can imagine it as a wonderful space, but all is fading. A luster and energy are gone with cleaning and upgrade needed. Evening staff with a chip and morning staff quite friendly and helpful. Breakfast is lackluster for this culinary town. Go out for croissants with a crackle and buttery air. Ah, what could be but isn't.

DisappointingGiven the disparity in the reviews, all I can figure is that this hotel must have some renovated rooms and some that are not - either that or some people feel really comfortable in a room that has not been renovated in 20 or 30 years. We tried really hard to feel positive about our stay at this hotel, as the staff were very friendly and helpful, it's in a great location to visit the sites and it was recommended in our Rick Steves book. As well, we like to stay in older buildings that have character and are a unique experience. However, the room was a disappointment - we had a triple room with 2 separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bathrooms were both nicely renovated and clean, but I would use the word "dumpy" to describe the rooms, furniture and bedding. Everything had a worn out feel to it. The charm of the room was long gone. As well, the room was on an upper floor that involved walking down a number hallways, twists and turns, up and down stairs, past some type of small inner courtyard that smelled very dank/musty and seemed to be in a part of the hotel uninhabited by anyone else. The hallway outside our room was very dark. Of course, this may have been where the triple room was located, fair enough, but we couldn't help feeling like we had been put into a seldom-used part of the hotel that others knew to avoid. The good news was that the room was very quiet, as there didn't seem to be another soul in this part of the hotel! In hindsight, we would rather have paid a bit more to have stayed somewhere that was more comfortable and inviting. Breakfast was adequate and it was very enjoyable to sit in the courtyard with all the greenery. Parking was on the street and we able to find parking both days within a few blocks of the hotel. It was an easy walk to see the sights and we loved the town. There was a good restaurant about a block away, with a nice outdoor seating area, that hotel staff directed us to, and even called to make reservations for us.
