Lovely if you get the right room!Good things: Spotless, very friendly, helpful staff, well equipped rooms, comfortable beds, convenient location, excellent breakfast. Questionable things: The rooms downstairs are at street level so people passing by can look in. The first room we were shown had two windows and the bathroom (beautifully appointed) also had a window. The shutters were difficult to close so there would be no privacy at all using the bathroom at night with the light on. Expensive for the facilities provided. Expect that a quieter room on a higher floor would be best.

Very relaxing and personable experienceThe hotel was very much to our liking and in line with expectations. The decor was new and stylish, the ambience was perfect and the staff were very helpful. The hotel was situated about a minute's walk from the village centre and because the village was relatively small, it felt like we were a part of the community during our stay. Bike hire offered by the hotel meant it was very easy for us to explore the rest of the island, due to the extensive and safe cycle network developed on the island. We would certainly consider returning in future years.

Modern ChicPerfectly situated in the centre of the charming village of Les Portes en Re. Small with a very smart nautical ambiance, the beige and cream tones invoking a sense of calm and tranquility. Exceptionally well equipped, a sumptuous breakfast and extremely helpful concierge...we had a wonderful stay at Hote des Portes. An added bonus was being able to hire our bicycles direct through the concierge.

Such a shame...We've been staying every year for the last four years. We love Les Portes and this was the only hotel. It's always had a few issues: dreadful pillows ( one tiny, horrible, lumpy pillow each) and the worst breakfast coffee I've ever been offered anywhere - but it's been pretty, friendly and convenient, if lacking in attention to detail for the price. We will not, however, be returning after our experience - and that of others- this year. The patron has decided to turn the hotel into a chambres d'hote. The 'L' has been painted out of the 'hotel' sign outside, though inside everything still says ' Hotel des Portes'. This is quite obviously an exercise in making more money at the expense of the guests. The breakfast ( very expensive, and which we have chosen not to have in previous years thanks to the rubbish coffee!) is now compulsory. There are five rooms and only three tables, so guests were arriving for breakfast to find that there was no space. If one wanted breakfast in one's room, that was now a 3 euro supplement each per person. Worst of all, though, is that there were two young people doing everything - and I mean all the cleaning and everything. They were clearly extremely unhappy, particularly as they were taking the flak for all the guests' complaints. We arrived at the time we had arranged from the airport to find the hotel ( sorry, chambre d'hote) closed until 3pm. The buzzer outside, which should have presumably led us to some help, was broken. We rang the number on our booking to no avail and were told later that this goes through to a different hotel who "don't care a bit". We had to stand in the boiling sun with all our cases for half an hour BUT - apparently another family arrived in the evening and also found it closed. They simply couldn't get in and had to stay the night with a friend ( luckily renting a house nearby!) - and Le Patron demanded full payment for the night anyway!! What a shame and a waste. This is a pretty hotel and everyone we have met working there over the years has been delightful. Clearly the owner is NOT delightful - a "horrible man" and has decided that he's going to milk this cash cow at the expense of its guests. Dommage.

Very nice and cosy place! We spent three nights with my wife and daughter @ Hote des Portes, and we enjoyed it very much! Very comfortable and cosy hotel. Comfortable rooms, very clean and modern. Pillows and beds have to be improved though! Seriously! Especially for cost per night that they charge!!! Very well located in Les Portes en Re, great place to discover the beautiful Il de Re! Breakfast was ok, coffee not fantastic but excellent croissant! Will certainly return there and recommend the place!
